david88446
I have been using CCleaner Free for many years now and am currently using version 5.63.7540 (64 bit) I have now had three occurrences on 2 different PC's where running Custom Clean and then Registry Clean has corrupted my Office 365 installation stopping it from starting up. The error message is about a corrupted dll file. In order to fix the problem I have had to do an online repair on Office 365 to reinstall it. In teh settings I do not have any Office versions included in the Clean, only MS OneDrive. Doing an Analyse run does not show any office related files for deletion. I am not sure if this is caused by the Custom Clean or the Registry Clean and am reluctant to try again because of the time spent to repair my Office installation. Is this a known issue and is there a fix? Edited November 28, 2019 by david88446 Additional info
Moderators nukecad Posted November 28, 2019 Moderators Share Posted November 28, 2019 It's probably the Registry Cleaner, you should not use it on a regular basis and especially not if you have Windows 10. Here is what Microsoft have to say about the potential for registry cleaners to break your machine:https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? AQZ
The Microsoft Office 365 corruption problem is caused by the cleaning action -- not the registry cleaner. See the many entries in the forum posting under "Office 16/Office 365 potential issues with CCleaner [under investigation]." So far there has been no resolution of the problem -- Ccleaner's cleaning action corrupted my Microsoft Office 365 yet again only a few minutes ago. I've now disabled Ccleaner on my PC until Piriform announces a fix.
scoobydog
It appears I have spoken too soon. I do not have OneDrive on my PC. Ran CCleaner yesterday and unable to open Office components today (Outlook). Have just been forced to carry out a re-installation of Microsoft Office 365. For goodness sakes Piriform when are you going to address this issue?!
david88446
Do we know if anyone in Piriform is actually working on this issue? If there are any Piriform people reading this forum please can you respond to confirm that you are aware of the issue.
Grump
Sadly, it appears that Piriform is not interested in addressing this issue. I no longer use Ccleaner.
jvidal
unfortunately, we're kinda stuck with ccleaner, it's the best cleaner i've found.
Sniktbub
Bump, if I may. I believe cleaning is still causing this problem. Two quick questions... Which cleaning option is specifically responsible for damaging Office? Is there any quick fix for that? Or not really? Not feeling like doing clean reinstall atm... Hello @Andrei CCleaner, Thank you for your quick reply. I believe it won't be necessary, as I don't have the admin privileges on my work computer... so I need to wait for our IT guy, anyway. I think CCleaner (v5.87.9306, 64-bit) caused the 0xc0000142 error, which prevents Office from starting - it's stuck at the orange "updating" window. Can't fix the Office installation now, but the temporary remedy for that problem is pretty simple - rebooting my PC does the trick.
Sniktbub
Changed my mind and sent you guys an e-mail. Take your time analyzing the problem - I am in no hurry. Looking forward to your reply. PS. Please keep in mind that I would be the most happy with a solution not requiring admin rights. Assuming such solution exists, of course. Is this CCleaner Home version or is it a business version? This forum is generally for users of the Home version, business versions obviously have to work differently. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Moderators nukecad Posted November 19, 2021 Moderators Share Posted November 19, 2021 I'm not sure at all that you should be using that on a works computer. Putting licensing issues to one side. The files, and apps, on a works computer are different to those on a home computer so any cleaning needs to be different too. (That's one reason why CCleaner has business versions). It can also be a disciplinary matter to use unauthorised software on a works computer. Have your works IT cleared you to use it? Do they even know that you are? *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning?
