CCleaner virus false positive?

Recommended Posts

Is this a virus in the installer?
I checked the installer on the VirusTotal website and Trojan.Agent seemed! KfmOoKkQb5g.

To confirm:

  1. That is the hash of the install from the 5.60 download build from the CCleaner website
  2. As you can see from one one engine out of 62 detecting anything (and none of the major AV engines) this is indeed a false positive.

This sort of thing happens now and then.  Conservative engines may err on the side of caution for "new" files - and we're always new since we release updates about once a month. Also, behavioural analysis engines can get a bit suspicious of a tool that wants to change registry entries, delete files, etc, etc - which is all, of course, intended behaviour for a cleaner.

Hello,

Don't download software from other sources different to official website. To be sure download it from CCleaner website and check checksum number to be sure that the file is good.

Regards
