Jim Hoffman
Dear Sirs, Madams, Please see attached MS Word file for my issue on the newest CCleaner update. I've never had Installer issues with the product since I started using it in Jan. 2013!! Thanks for any help or suggestions you may have. (My "old" system is always backed up before I try serious things. To a full "mirror image" of C drive with all things in proper order BEFORE any installs or modifications. Sincerely, Jim Hoffman. Dear Sirs, Madams: Problem: Am using “old” version of Ccleaner(v5.57.7182). Can download “new” update and save the “Install” file(in “Downloads), when “executing” new version,(v5.58.7209) Installer appears to “start”(“Extracting Files”), then stops and I get no Setup window. But then can not delete the Setup file as Windows reports it is “In use by another program”!! This is the 1st ever version which has done this!! Even tried ‘restarting’ the WMI Installer in Windows “Services”!! No difference. Windows XP “Event Viewer” is giving me this error message in it’s “Applications” area: Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file. This seems to indicate a certificate “validity” error and I’ve looked up online that you have changed the certificate validity signatures from the ones used on the “old” version(v5.57.7182) to the “new” version!! Will I have to do an “Uninstall/Reinstall?? Should I use Windows MSI Installer or Revo Portable Uninstaller to do the “uninstall”?? (It does remove ALL traces of any old programs incuding “Registry” entries pertaining to any program. I’ve used Revo for many years now with excellent results to remove stubborn acting installations when required.(sometimes caused by a bad “install”). It assures no “old” remnants may cause other difficulties. (after uninstalling like this, I’ve always used Windows MSI Installer to put in a “new” version. I’m using Win XP SP3 and have ZERO problems running any other programs. System is maintained regularly.(Disk wiping, junk files, defragging, error checking. This is done about every 2-3 weeks on a regular basis. Meticulously too. All systems are “go”!! Thanks, Jim Hoffman. Moderators Nergal Posted June 10, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 10, 2019 Jim, please don't submit issues in the form of attachments, nobody wants to open a word document from a stranger. As a favor, because i'm risk a taker of fun today, I opened it. I've placed the whole of the document inside of your post. Jim Hoffman
OK, my apologies for the attachment. I've used CCleaner fo over 6 years and have always used in in it's "default" state; never had problems. Not once. All updates have never modified those original "default" settings. That's a pretty strong record. I've worked with computers since 1992(DOS), do know command line stuff and am fairly educated in Windows Registry. If in ANY doubt, I check articles online about subjects first!! That's an "absolute". BTW; I'm a retired Marine Engineer, college educated. I'm not stranger to Windows "Services" section and their settings as well. (I know Win 7 and 8 are largely based on XP's architecture too. Just more "bells and whistles". Stuff I would never use. If you do not wish attachments, may I inquire as to why you have the attachment link just below?? With the 1.93MB limit?? Thank you. Sincerely, Jim Hoffman

Moderators Andavari Posted June 10, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 10, 2019 It's just a forum etiquette-type of thing to not post such things that; A): Aren't displayed by default in the web browser without anyone having to download it, especially if it's just text. B): Could pose as a possible threat that can easily infect computers, i.e.; via macros, etc., in Office documents. I.e.; See this search:https://duckduckgo.com/?q=office+documents+spread+macro+virus I'm surprised the forum software even allows it (maybe it has to be configured to disallow it, which would be wise). In the past a different forum software was very restrictive against allowing in theory "infectable" files from being uploaded.
