Moderators mta Posted September 10, 2018 Moderators Share Posted September 10, 2018 yes. turn off monitoring, disable auto-updater, create firewall rules, and/or use portable version. it all depends on what you want CC to do for you. what version do you have? Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. My CCleaner (free version) silently auto updated yesterday from 5.43 to 5.46 without any prompts or warning. I probably wouldn't even have known it updated if I didn't happen to notice the version number change. I had all the usual settings disabled (monitoring, auto update check, etc.) as well, so the update came as quite a surprise to say the least. I didn't however disable the so-called emergency updater in Task Scheduler (which I now see is a popular suggestion) or create firewall rules so the emergency updater is almost certainly the culprit. These would be the settings I have used for years. CCleaner chenged or ignored them... There will be snow in hell, before I would turn on monitoring! CCleaner did that! THAT is what I want to do something about !!!!! I have reset everything and will see, if the see if those settings will change again...
