Update Unable to Write to CCLEANER64.EXE

Recommended Posts

The last three CCleaner Pro updates have been unable to complete.  The CCleaner notifies that there is a new update.  I tell it to go ahead and update.  The update downloads and the proceeds to commence the install.  When it gets to CCleaner64.exe it says it doesn't have the necessary permissions.  The update acts like CCleaner64.exe is still in use, but the updater closed CCleaner.  I don't see CCleaner64.exe being used anywhere.  I have to abort the update.  After the aborted update, CCleaner will not run saying it can't find some of its program files.  I then have to go to the Piriform website and download the latest version and manually install it.  However, the latest update 5.43.6522 isn't the latest file in downloads.  So if I download and install the 5.43 Pro from downloads, CCleaner will say there is a newer update when it runs.  Yet, I can't install that update because the cycle starts all over again.  Really Piriform?  Make sure your update and its installer works before releasing it on the massess.  I'm using Windows 10 [Version 10.0.15063]

Do you have Malwarebytes running?

There is a bug in the Malwarebytes anti-ransom module which is currently preventing various programmes from updating.
