Moderators hazelnut Posted January 3, 2018 Moderators Share Posted January 3, 2018 Because of a design flaw in Intel processors chips expect slowdowns after Windows and Linux updates. Quote Programmers are scrambling to overhaul the open-source Linux kernel's virtual memory system. Meanwhile, Microsoft is expected to publicly introduce the necessary changes to its Windows operating system in an upcoming Patch Tuesday Quote Crucially, these updates to both Linux and Windows will incur a performance hit on Intel products. The effects are still being benchmarked, however we're looking at a ballpark figure of five to 30 per cent slow down https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

It'll be interesting to see what happens to cloud providers who almost universally run on Intel Xeons as a result of this. The security implications from what I understand are pretty extreme. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Andavari Posted January 3, 2018 Moderators Share Posted January 3, 2018 I wonder what exact team blue processors have the issue, and does it actually only go back about ten years. First Apple with iPhone batteries and now this.

login123
I read some info about antivirus software interfering with the update. It says here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=212648.msg1439270#msg1439270 that an update for Avast was issued a couple of days ago for Avast version 8 or later. But some users are still reporting problems. The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Moderators hazelnut Posted January 5, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted January 5, 2018 Here is the latest as regards to where your av provider is with this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/184wcDt9I9TUNFFbsAVLpzAtckQxYiuirADzf3cL42FQ/htmlview?sle=true#gid=0 I use Emsisoft which, through its updater, set the required reg key needed for the Windows update KB40506892 All went ok although Windows was waiting for a restart afterwards. (win 10 build 1709) All Apple products are affected by the Meltdown and Spectre chip vulnerabilities as well as most Windows machines. login123
Some problems created for Sandboxie are apparently fixed by beta version 5.23.3. Read the first post and those on page 3. https://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=25114 I think that means no help for win xp users who can only use up to ver 5.22. Is that right? Moderators hazelnut Posted January 5, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted January 5, 2018 I think it only affect Win 7 users. I am still on 5.22 on Win 10 after the Microsoft Update and have no issues. I did update Win 7 to 5.23.3 and have no problem after the win Update. Moderators rridgely Posted January 9, 2018 Moderators Share Posted January 9, 2018 The initial reporting of this was all over the place. The headlines all said intel only when in reality it was pretty much every modern pc. There were also reports saying a 30% hit to performance when that isn't on desktop use but only linux servers. Everything thing I've seen about desktop use has shown benchmarks that are pretty much negligible in performance difference. Now that could change as the patches are updated but I haven't noticed any difference on my computers yet.
