c627627
As of the latest version 5.36 - even if you UNCHECK Auto Updating at installation - as soon as it is installed, CCUpdate.exe phones home and tries to phone home permanently after that. Why is any component, including CCUpdate.exe of CCleaner running at startup if Monitoring has been turned off? Is this a bug? Or is using Firewalls to hardblock CCleaner now the only way to intercept phone home / update checks?

See this thread https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=49069 I do not need this task, I delete it. This task will be added to the scheduler now with each update? Why is this task not being displayed in CCleaner?
Moderators mta Posted November 28, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 28, 2017 it is a hidden task. in TaskScheduler > CCleaner Update, unitck Hidden at the bottom of screen. personally, I've set the task to Disabled, I'll wait and see if that status changes when CC gets the next update. login
The CCleaner can not display hidden tasks? And why was it necessary to do this task hidden?
Moderators mta Posted November 28, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 28, 2017 apparently not, I guess that's why it's called Hidden. if every program ignored that setting, there'd be little point in it. another reason to not always believe what 3rd party programs tell you, go straight to the source. the task was created as part of the recent malware hack of CC v5.35, the idea behind it is, if Piriform ever wants to rush out an emergency update, they can. if you don't want/like that feature, then adjusting that task will stop that. Conversely, if they get hacked (again), can hackers rush out an "emergency" hacked version too?
