Moderators hazelnut Posted August 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted August 3, 2017 As he was getting ready to head back to the U.K., the man who stopped the spread of the WannaCry ransomware earlier this year was arrested. Marcus Hutchins, also known as MalwareTech, was detained in Nevada as friends fret over where he is and how he's being treated. Moderators hazelnut Posted August 3, 2017 Author Moderators Share Posted August 3, 2017 ..Now we know why he was arrested The US Department of Justice said he had been arrested for his alleged involvement in a separate matter. "Marcus Hutchins... a citizen and resident of the United Kingdom, was arrested in the United States on 2 August, 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a grand jury in the Eastern District of Wisconsin returned a six-count indictment against Hutchins for his role in creating and distributing the Kronos banking Trojan," it said. "The charges against Hutchins, and for which he was arrested, relate to alleged conduct that occurred between in or around July 2014 and July 2015."
