Recuva Freezing PC

I had a folder on my external hard drive disappear after moving it to a new computer.  Recuva finds ~120,000 files, but things get dicey during "Analyzing Damage."  It moves along pretty well until it reaches 66%.  The "Estimated Time Left" begins to climb until it hits "10 seconds" then my entire computer freezes.  Task manager won't work or anything.  Anybody have any idea what might be happening?
