Short-sightedness has gone up after Win XP's expiry!

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks!

Transition from WinXP to newer embellishments driven later versions didn't turn out to a nice experience for Eyes!

Things have gone tiny tot & too microscopic!

Earlier, Display settings used to host categoric & easily comprehensible options such as---Small, Medium, Large & Very-Large text size!

Now, these have been broken down into several exclusive options which are hard to visualize & foresee!

Therefore, can someone please guide me on what values to choose for each of the individual fields listed over there in order to replicate the VERY-LARGE Text-size effect/Outcome of WinXP?

Iam using Win 10 Home edition at present & unable to figure-out those specific values which can reincarnate the effect of Extra-Large Text size of WinXP within my present OS?

Help will be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks.

see if this is what you are chasing.

right click on an empty area on the desktop and choose Display Settings.

on the first (and only) slider bar titled Change the size of text, apps and other items slide the level to the right to make everything bigger.

another option is to use a 'chunkier' screen resolution by clicking the Advanced display settings on that same screen.

(or do what I had to a couple of years ago and get glasses) :)

Hello mta!

Thanks for the above reply.

However, I do not intend to use ZOOM as this turns out to be a Compromise in one way or another!

On your second option-- 1366X768 (recommended) value has been set at present. Please help suggest on an alternative for this?

Isn't there a way to restore certain 'Legacy' features of earlier versions within Windows 10? Things used to be 'that Simple' with as basic requirement as setting the desirable Text-size!

Now how to figure out the Optimized values to emulate >> "Very-Large Text size" as used to be prevalent within WinXP?

Please suggest further....

Thanks.

as your attached image, to get to that in Windows 10, go to Control Panel (view by small icons), Display, and play around with Change the text size only area.

but it's going to be fiddly I think.

Hello mta!

Iam awaiting a piece of advice on 'Chunkier' Screen Resolution?

Please suggest what should be the desirable Screen resolution in order to fulfill the aforesaid Objective?

Thanks.

if the 2 options in post #2 and the one in post #4 don't help, then that's me out of ideas.

if you simply want a chunky screen resolution, 800x600 would certainly do that.

but I haven't heard of (or know how to) this XP extra large text styling you speak of.

The only way I got the text size view-able without using binoculars on my mother's Win10 Dell laptop was to reduce it from 1080p HD down to 720p HD - much easier to do than fiddling with various other settings.

Hello Andavari!

Please reveal the exact resolution that helped solve the viewing problem. Is it 1080 X 720? Please reveal a more insight. Thanks.

also, don't forget, it's totally dependant on your screen aspect ratio (16:9, 4:3, or other now days) and your graphics card capabilities.

"Adjust Clear Type text" is feature which might help somewhat in this regard!..though most of the options offered within this Screen appear to portray the same quality & illumination of Text.

Why have the simplest of things have now been transformed to such a complexity?

For post WinXP versions, these settings ought to be supplemented with 'Instant Preview' feature to help visualize & foresee the imminent Outcome!

Why should the end Users be made to fiddle with the scale of Text-size, & that too for only the fragments of Screen?

Its Weird you see....!?

Can't reveal exact instructions (I'm sure you can find those on the web) because I don't have that laptop in my possession.

I think it was in the Display Settings area somewhat similar to how you get there in XP by right-clicking to pull it up, although I don't know if I'm remembering correctly since that was months ago.
