I have submitted numerous requests via the site form and have yet to get any replies.   I am unable to update my version of Ccleaner.  My current version is 5.12.  I download update but get error when trying to install.   Error Opening file for writing - file is CCleaner64.exe.  Then get error on opening file on Branding.dll file.   I have Windows 10, 64 bit.

@rigrot,

some things to try;

  1. install CC with the PC in Safe Mode
  2. use the Slim or Portable builds
  3. disable your AV while installing or add CC to it's exclusion list (especially if you have BitDefender)
  4. uninstall, reboot, and reinstall CC, in other words, don't install over-the-top, do a fresh install

get back with how you go.

I have always been able to update, now I get this error message...

"0x2f7d: An error occurred in the secure channel support". I use Google Chrome and PC is WinXP ... Please Help!!

I'm having a similar problem downloading the CCleaner Free v5.15.5513 installer from your Download page with my 32-bit Vista machine.  The download of the standard installer ccsetup515.exe from the Builds page at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds is successful.

However, if I click the Download button at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download, I get the following error in my default Firefox v44.0.2 browser when I'm redirected to http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup_515.exe

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

      <Error>

            <Code>NoSuchKey</Code>

            <Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>

            <Key>ccsetup_515.exe</Key>

     </Error>

I also tried downloading from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download with my IE9 browser, and when I'm redirected to http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup_515.exe I see the error HTTP 404 Not Found:  The webpage cannot be found.

Could the underscore in the name of the executable (i.e., ccsetup_515.exe) be the issue?  Or perhaps a HTTP vs. HTTPS issue?

I went thru all your options..........and the one that worked was Safe Mode w/networking.  The software downloaded correctly and the version 5.15 is now on my system.  Thanks for the help.  I am having many other problems with my system since I updated to Windows 10 and think I will have to clean my entire system/disk and reinstall everything.  My system does not recognize programs...drivers are not being recognized etc etc.

   But thanks for the help....................oh, one for thing.  I will sometimes get messages to close Edge when I do not use or have Edge open.  Is that a Windows 10/CCleaner issue?

if CC thinks Edge is open (or any background Edge-related task), then as you know, you get that message.

even though you may not use Edge, it is heavily entrenched into Windows and shares many libraries.

so although you don't directly use it, you use it all the time indirectly.

add to that the numerous builds of Win10 since its main release and CC (Piriform) is probably having a tough time playing catch-up.

Just an update to let you know that the Download button for CCleaner Free at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download is working correctly today and I was able to download the latest v5.15 installer (ccsetup515.exe) from that download page.  The Download button now redirects me to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard.

Thanks for posting Imacri.

I believe Piriform looked at the issue once it was flagged up to them and fixed it :)
