Moderators nukecad Posted January 18, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 18, 2016 There is a lot of debate about whether or not you should defrag SSDs. The general opinion seems to be not to, because: 'it does no good and shortens the life of the drive'. However it's worth noting that Windows itself will sometimes defrag SSDs as part of the "Optimize Drives" process (Win7 and above). http://www.ghacks.net/2015/01/20/windows-ssds-and-defragmentation-the-definitive-answer/ *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Moderators mta Posted January 18, 2016 Moderators Share Posted January 18, 2016 What is the brand, make and model of your hybrid drive? I ask because some hybrids are just mechanical drives with a large cache attached, rather than actual NAND chips to use as a SSD. To me a true hybrid SSD/HDD should have two drive letters, one for each type of drive, but I haven't seen any of those. The few SSHD's I have used seem to no speedier than a normal 7200rpm 2.5" drive. They just use cache to make them 'speedier' and cache is lost when power is lost, NAND memory isn't. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. trium
mechanical drives with a large cache attached The few SSHD's I have used seem to no speedier than a normal 7200rpm ive recently seen it on the shelf too... for example: wd have hds with 64 mb cache on offer, seagate have sshds with 64 mb cache (only hd with "normal" cache size for this hds) Hello can you tell me can I use Defraggler software on my sshd hard drive. if this drive is not a real sshd then you can use defraggler as on normal hd.
