AVG insists ccleaner.exe is threat.

Running up-to-date AVG Internet Security 2015 and latest CCleaner Since the last CCleaner update and/or the latest AVG IS update, AVG insists that ccleaner.exe is an unknown threat.

Does anyone else have experience of this? Worked out what to do?

This is likely a false positive caused by the bundled google/or/dropbox/or/VyperVPN installer offers. The only case where there would be an actual worry is if you didn't get ccleaner from piriform, cnet or file hippo.

Do you have AVG set to flag PuP (potentially unwanted programs).

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

Hi @Carl45 and welcome to the forum.

Yes, I got those messages a couple of years ago when 1) I used to have AVG IS and 2) used to use the normal build of CC.

I added CC to AVG's ignore list to get around it.

But I quickly moved on to using CC's portable builds which didn't cause those warnings.

I don't because I use Malwarebytes as a secondary trouble scanner - and it is very PuP sensitive.

good news.

yep MBAM is a great program, well worth the cost to make it proactive rather than the free, reactive version.
