Problems with Edge

Recommended Posts

I have CCleaner 5.08 Professional and recently upgraded to Windows 10 with it's associated browser Edge.

I don't like Edge and reverted to internet explorer to browse but Edge cannot be deleted and still appears to be gathering info.

When I run CCleaner with the Edge options all ticked, when the cleaner reaches the internet cache it sticks. I ran it all night and it was still cleaning the cache this morning. When stopped it had cleaned over 12000 files in the Edge cache. If I untick the Edge options CCleaner works as before but I don't want to leave all this stuff in Edge so does anyone have any idea what's happening ?

I have noticed this as well.  I run Windows 10 and use both Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge - mainly to decide which is better.  When running CCleaner, Internet Explorer is cleaned as it did before Windows 10 was installed but the process then stops at a request that Microsoft Edge needs closing. Until this is ticked either Yes or No , the process will not proceed.

I don't know how to refer this to Piriform, there seems to be no way to send them a query.

I've read the comments of other users but they don't exactly answer what is happening to me. I don't use Edge and have gone back to the old IE browser I used before but still have Microsoft 10. When running CCleaner the Edge options are still there and if ticked cleaner will start with the first option and can be seen deleting files even though Edge should have nothing to clean. The main problem is that it sticks there and doesn't proceed past the cache. It just keeps running.

Edge, like internet explorer in previous windows, is used throughout the operating system and as a renderer by many applications thus it still collects data even if you never open it.

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

thanks Nergal. I didn't know that. Does that mean that all the information from logins, passwords etc. is still collected and passed to MS ?

Does it also mean that Edge can never be cleaned properly because it's always gathering information ?

No passwords are not, mainly only the cache and maybe cookies are used. Yes it can be properly cleaned, however like everything else, it gets unclean again...no cleaning is really permanent if a program still exists.
