Speccy will not show my OS. It only says "The operation completed successfully."

maybe it has something to do with you adding the feature Media Centre.

it's only available for Win8 Pro, so did you add it after the upgrade?

This has been happening since before I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and media center.

and just to take the old 'have your tried turning it off and on again?" (thanks Roy - IT Crowd) to its next logical step, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

tried a previous Speccy version?

seen what happens/changes if run with the PC in Safe Mode?

Turning if off an on again was my first course of action as always, but yielded no results this time. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple versions of Speccy. I have not tried booting into safe mode yet; I will do that now.

Safe mode didn't do anything differently. To be honest, at this point I'm not really sure what can be done, since I didn't work on the program I don't know why that message was programmed there in the first place.

The biggest problem is that it's pretty obvious a clean install of Windows would probably fix the issue, but I'm not reliant on this program enough to go through that hassle. That's why I posted here in the first place.

OK, let's wait then and see if a Dev Team member chimes in.

It certainly isn't a big enough issue to force a Windows reload.

I wonder if it's something as simple as a missing registry key. And I also wonder if installing other software in the future could suffer from the issue, such as an anti-virus not knowing which version of Windows you have and thus fail to install, etc., or if it's just a Speccy only issue.

I'm not sure what I'd do about that.

should be easy enough to verify.

click on Start, type dxdiag to find the inbuilt MS program, run it and it'll show the OS as well.

see what it says.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

Aerodamus sorry to hear you are having issues.  I have spoke to our devs and they require some additional information to investigate the cause of this issue, can you perform the following steps:

1. Open an Elevated Command window (Start > type 'cmd' > right click > Run as administrator)

2. In the command window type cd %programfiles%/speccy and hit enter.

3. Now type 'speccy /debug', hit enter

4. Click OK on the dialog window that opens.

5. Once Speccy has finished its analysis it will save a log file to the Speccy install folder which will begin with Speccy_log....

Please attach the log file to this thread and I will have someone investigate further, thanks.

Aerodamus,

Thanks for the log, can you check the value of the following registry key and let me know what it is please?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\InstallDate

Thanks.
