Tasgandy
For all those Macrium Reflect users out there, upgrade to Ver 6.0 now and check out some of the differences. Always With Kind RegardsTasgandy"one is never too old to listen & learn"
Moderators mta Posted June 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2015 I got the pop-up message last week when I did my regular image.... the differences are worth it then? Tasgandy
Other than faster (they say) and auto verification (this only seem to happen for me on one PC and not the other) and smaller backup file................I think it's worth it, if for no other reason than to stay "up to date" Always With Kind RegardsTasgandy"one is never too old to listen & learn"
Moderators mta Posted June 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2015 just read the release notes for v6. All editions of Macrium Reflect can be downloaded for a 30 day trial. The trial is fully functional except that the ReDeploy functionality to restore images to dissimilar hardware is not included. The decision to remove this functionality was made on commercial grounds. Not sure if this was the case with v5, but if you want to restore your HD image to a different PC come D-day - you're out of luck (unless the hardware is very similar). Admittedly, I've only needed to restore using a Macrium image a few times, and always to the same PC it came off - but..... may be a show-stopper and make me get the paid-for version now. Moderators Andavari Posted June 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2015 may be a show-stopper and make me get the paid-for version now. I don't think I'd personally want to restore to a different PC myself. As for backing up and restoring those other things there's file archiving software such as 7-Zip, etc.
Tasgandy
Yes mta your right, a different hardware config will most likely present a problem. In my case I've always stored all data on a separate HD to the OS and apps on another HD. In fact both my PC's have 3 HD's the third one being for movies, music and pic's. At the price of 2.0TB HD's these days I like to play safe. However I am also thinking of signing up for the paid version. Moderators mta Posted June 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2015 Yeah, I don't mind paying for the good stuff, especially after I've used the trial version for ages. 'bout time I coughed up. I have a similar setup, C:\ for Windows and software (a SSD) imaged by Macrium weekly and a HDD covered by ViceVersa daily. Then off-PC backups monthly and off-site backups every other month. (yeah, anal I know, but that warm-fuzzy feeling is priceless). I actually had an Excel VBA corruption this week and after trying to resolve it, I simply bit the bullet, restored a C:\ image and got the Excel file from the day before backup and I was back up and running within 15 minutes. As per my sig, you will live or die by your backup regime. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. Moderators mta Posted June 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2015 So with v6 they have gone down the currently popular flat look as well. I must say, I like it.
