Moderators mta Posted September 26, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2014 Do you remember where your original CC version was downloaded from? I'm thinking if it was from CNET or FileHippo or the like, it may have came 'pre-wrapped' with other software which are now raising their heads with the update. If you got it from Piriform, it would have been 'clean' so to speak. For the sake of curiosity I'd be scanning the whole PC for other gremlins. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. Moderators hazelnut Posted September 26, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2014 If it is indeed a result of pre-wrapping by C-Net or FileHippo, I find this disgraceful. I would always go here for your updates when you get the word there is one https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

Same thing here - and I fell for it unfortunately. Then I also had to deal with automatic startup of CCleaner and monitoring by CCleaner - totally unacceptable. Took about nan hour to clean up the pc - including uninstall of CCleaner. Got a blue screen in the process. I'm through with CCleaner . I just don't need any more problems from an unnecessary program, even if it is free. Thanks, but NO THANKS.
Moderators hazelnut Posted September 29, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 29, 2014 John and aceylady, When you say it said there was an update for CCleaner.. who said this? Where did it go for the update do you know? Where did you initially download CCleaner from? What is your default browser?
