Samsung recognizes the seriousness of any potential degradation of read performance on old data. We are testing and validating the circumstances that potentially cause this performance drop and will work diligently to resolve the issue

Seems to only affect the 840 and 840 EVO solid state disks, note the temporary fix listed.

hope it's not indicative of other TLC brands ?

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.

I've noticed a slowdown for years on my USB thumb drives. What I've always did is copy the contents to the desktop into a new folder, format the USB thumb drive, and finally copy everything back onto it.

Yep, this is how you defrag them and move the bad blocks out

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
