JDPower
Am I the only one that can't install todays Windows update - kb2923545? It's supposed to be a fix for potential update errors yet, ironically, I keep getting an error when trying to install (Win Update gives an 80070643 error code).Have followed all the suggestions MS gives for that error code HERE, and downloaded the hotfix to install manually, but still no go.Is it just me? And anyone any other suggestions?
Moderators Andavari Posted February 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 25, 2014 From their page: The most common cause is a problem with the .NET Framework installed on the computer. And I wouldn't doubt it, I had to fully remove .NET Framework from my XP SP3 install in order to get a horde of other updates to install. .NET Framework can die!!! Moderators hazelnut Posted February 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 25, 2014 Could be the dreaded .net causing issues. If it is I feel your pain. http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135 Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
JDPower
I used that .net tool Hazel, it was one of the suggested fixes on the MS site, and did the last suggested step in the MS page of removing all versions of .net and reinstalling, then trying to install the update, didn't work (even tried installing the update with .net removed, just on the off chance it might work)
Willy2
Try this: Download "Windows Repair" and run it. www.tweaking.com There's also a ".Net removal tool" available but I haven't got a clue where to find it. Find it and re-install .net. Or if you don't like .Net then don't re-install it. And as already said, used the .net removal tool and tried installing the update without .net installed and after reinstalling. I think the .net think might be a red herring but it seems no one else is having a problem with this update

Moderators Andavari Posted February 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 27, 2014 From that link I supplied it takes you right into the readme page which claims it will not offer to uninstall a .NET Framework version that's integrated into and is a part of the OS. I'm just glad it's not a security update or something more important as it seems the update is just gonna have to stay uninstalled
Moderators Andavari Posted February 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 27, 2014 Who knows, maybe Microsoft will release a fix a mere 2 months before they stop supporting your OS. That's in direct reference to the old XP update bug they finally got around to fixing.

Moderators Andavari Posted March 6, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 6, 2014 Possibly some update glitch in your OSes, you can only hope Microsoft can fix something on their end if you've both tried everything available to end-users.

Moderators hazelnut Posted March 6, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 6, 2014 You aren't the only on having an issue with that update JD. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/latest-windows-update-for-windows-7-kb2923545/c7b7a43a-4c2f-4942-af48-fe11e1ed7337 By the way what did the error code say as the reason for the fail besides giving you the error code? If you look here there are two listings of your error code plus the different messages and how to fix. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff358634.aspx Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

He seems to be having a slightly different problem as his won't download, mine downloads fine but refuses to install (shows how much use those error codes are don't it!). And it gives no more information other than saying installation failed and that error code (the "get help with this error" link doesn't even take you to the right error code help page) Oh and having not googled for a few days I tried googling the error code and update number - only got my own post
JDPower
SUCCESS There was another bunch of updates today and all but the malicious software removal tool failed. They gave the same error I was getting previously, but ALSO a second error code - 80071A91. Searching for solutions to that second error code found the following suggested fix (posting for anyone that stumbles across this whilst searching) which WORKED and was able to successfully install all todays updates AND the original troublesome update Reset the File System Resource Manager if you receive error 0x80071A91 1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator. 2. In the Command Prompt window you will need to type the following, and press ENTER: fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ 3. Note: You will need to replace the C:\ with the drive letter that Windows is installed on. 4. Restart your computer, and then attempt to install the failed update(s). Would be curious to know what the above actually fixes, and how it got messed up in the first place, but guessing it'll be one of those wonders of Windows that defy logical explanation
Moderators hazelnut Posted March 12, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2014 Good news that you are fixed Apparently you use the solution you used for when the Windows file system transaction log is corrupted. The Windows file system uses the transaction log to recover system transactions when a file error occurs. By putting ''setautoreset true'' the Transaction Resource Manager cleans the transactional metadata on the next mount, by default.
