the end of an era?

 

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.

Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.

is it fair to say iTunes killed it - or at least was the start of the end.

for me it's only iTunes or VLC now to get my digital life organised.

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.

Probably it was being bought out by AOL a few years ago that started the decline. If they had put money and tech into it things could have been way different.

I gave up on it when AOL bought it, so I haven't used it for years. At least for the years I used it it was a much better alternative than WMP.

Back when Foobar2000 was released I think allot of Winamp users migrated to it as well.
