I don't know if it is technically possible but adding a summary of what each program does, is necessary for, or where it came from would make the task of cleaning out the crap of unneeded programs a bit easier.

Computers accumulate all sorts of programs that are installed and never needed or wanted again. The problem is that wading through the list to purge that crap is a scary prospect. Some of them may have a purpose I care about, but many I suspect do not. If it were possible to display the information of where it came from and what it does and what other programs are associated with it the decision of what Stays and what can Go would be much less daunting.
