Moderators rridgely Posted May 30, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 30, 2013 I think its good they are making it possible to have the start screen default to the "all apps" screen rather than the default tiles. However this still isn't as good as what the start menu already did. I don't really care either way anymore. Start 8 can now recreate the start menu, boot to desktop, and disable all those hot corners. My pc is essentially running windows 7 again with the upgrades windows 8 does provide. (and there are actually quite a few)
Winapp2.ini
Will there be a way to disable the start menu on the desktop view? I actually prefer the start screen. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Nergal Posted May 30, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 30, 2013 yes I believe accord to the majorities of rumors it will be an opt-in function. However someone might be pulling our collective leg on whether it really has returned or not ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Coffee4Joe
I thought it was just a physical button that takes you to the start screen instead of the hot corner, similar to what the beta's had
Moderators Nergal Posted May 30, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 30, 2013 the article posted glosses the return with a link about a leak. this is the latest official answer. We’ve improved the way you navigate to Start with the mouse by changing the Start “tip” to be the familiar Windows logo. The new tip appears anytime you move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen, and is always visible on the taskbar when on the desktop. There are also options to change what the corners do, and options to boot into alternate screens. For example, if you prefer to see the Apps view versus all the tiles, you can choose to have the Start screen go directly to Apps view. http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2013/05/30/continuing-the-windows-8-vision-with-windows-8-1.aspx ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Alan_B
I read earlier today that M.S. will sell a mouse with a special Start button for £40.
Moderators mta Posted May 31, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 31, 2013 can't wait, it sounds like what Win8 should have been from the get-go. there would have been so many less people whining. has anybody seen any download size estimates? Winapp2.ini
Interestingly, the folder for the start menu exists on 8. I suspect they use it all for the start screen. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
