cz016m
When I deselect Windows Explorer Recent Documents, CCleaner should recognize that I do not want any recent documents from any program, including MS Office, to be deleted. But if you select Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007, your temporary files appear to get deleted anyway, when running the Cleaner tool. I recommended CCleaner to a technical friend at work (we're programmers) because his system was going slow and he hoards files. Well, we went through each option to ensure certain files that he wanted to keep were kept after the Cleaner runs. So naturally, we deselected, "Windows Explorer: Recent Documents". We ran CCleaner and guess what. All of his recent documents were gone. He got VERY angry with me and sort of lost his temper. He spent countless hours creating those Recent Files and that was what he used as his starting point for work each day. Now he has to rebuild that file and it's going to take him a long time and he is going to lose a lot of productivity. I offered to run a system restore for him, but he declined because the last restore point he had was several weeks ago and many of the recent items he would have had would not be there. Do you think he's going to use CCleaner ever again? All I'm saying is that when a user deselects 'Windows Explorer: Recent Documents", it had darn well better not delete anything from any program that is stored there. We are using the latest version of CCleaner as of 4/4/13 (v4.00.4064). Thanks for your time.

This is [OT] but I really can't understand people getting mad losing their recent items. Those will come back over time or usually pretty quickly by just opening the files you most often use. Or you could use shortcuts or pin to the start menu/taskbar. A bit like people getting mad of losing history; never considered using bookmarks/shortcuts/tabs?[/OT]. But yeah I've noticed similar with Office. Btw. did you/he use Winapp2.ini file with CCleaner?
Alan_B
CCleaner has the Analyze button which does no damage, but predicts what will be damaged if you "Run Cleaner".
Moderators mta Posted April 5, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 5, 2013 am I missing something? it says Windows Explorer: Recent Docs - not Office or Notepad or what-have-you. if you untick that, it should only effect Windows Explorer, if you leave ticked Office 2007, it should clean those. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. Moderators Nergal Posted April 5, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 5, 2013 Windows Explorer Recent Documents, CCleaner should recognize that I do not want any recent documents from any program how pray tell would it, a simple hunt and peck series of code, know what you, an individual sentient life form with your own thoughts of what you want (as opposed to my thought of what I want, which might be completly different), would like done?. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators Andavari Posted April 7, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 7, 2013 Seems like one of those cases of being new to the software where unfamilarity can be destructive, which is why looking at the documentation site helps figure things out. SolihullRog
Quite an amazing series of posts. I've always had a high regard for CCleaner, and always expect respectable software to be bug-free, or at least have a sympathetic and rapid response to problems. Some of the respondents, here, don't seem very professional.
