Google Chrome Portable not detected

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've searched this forum and the google for a solution but nothing has worked so far.

I've edited my settings.ini to detect portable versions of FireFox, ThunderBird and Opera which seem to work find but Google Chrome is not showing up on the list.

Has something changed recently?

This is the code I'm using :

CustomLocation1=CHROME|C:\PortableApps\GoogleChrome\Data\profile\Default

From I've researched, it should work like all the rest as long as the path includes the "profile" directory

Looking at the changelog, support was added to v2.35.1219 on 25 Aug 2010

Sorry if this has asked before or I missed something during my research.

Let me know if you need any other info, thanks!

EDIT : Sorry, I think I might need to be running V24 of Portable Chrome for this to work. Can someone confirm?

There's no "settings.ini" in CCleaner, did you mean "ccleaner.ini"?

I don't have portable Chrome currently on my USB, but this portable Firefox entry works:

CustomLocation1=FIREFOX|J:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile

I've had this for my portable Chrome:

CustomLocation6=CHROME|J:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile\Default

Yeah, that is correct. Sorry about that.

CustomLocation6=CHROME|J:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile\Default

Interesting, something must have changed in recent versions of Chrome (the portable version at least)

I do see that the changelog shows v24 support so I might limited to using that version.

v3.27.1900 (24 Jan 2013) - Added cleaning for Internet Explorer Metro Cache.

- Added cleaning for Internet Explorer Metro History.

- Added Google Chrome v24 support.

The problem is when I try to install it, I get the following error :

The downloaded copy of Google Chrome (Stable) is not valid and can not be installed. Please try installing again.

I even tried putting http://dl.google.com...e_installer.exe next to the portable installer and even in the temp directory it creates but no go.

I appreciate your help. Looks like it will be click & clean for now.

chrome portable custom location is broken, I had to make GCP entries in my personal winapp2

[GCP - Internet Cache*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=True
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_CACHE

[GCP - Internet History*]
LangSecRef=3029
Section = Chrome
Default=True
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_HISTORY

[GCP - Download History*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=True
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_DOWNLOAD

[GCP - Cookies*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=True
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_COOKIES

[GCP - Saved Form Information*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=False
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_FORM

[GCP - Saved Passwords*]
LangSecRef=3029
WarningRef=3202
Default=False
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_PASSWORD

[GCP - Session*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=True
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_SESSION

[GCP - Compact Databases*]
LangSecRef=3029
Default=False
DetectFile=M:\GoogleChromePortable\Data
SpecialKey1=N_CHROME_COMPACT_DATABASES

replace M:\GoogleChromePortable\ with the location of your gcp (if you're truly portable, like me, choose the location for the computer that you are most likely to use CCleaner on.

Use this ALONG with custom location (which will inform the "SpecialKey1" lines where to look,and you can clean chrome) also some of those may be extendables (and not in the usual ccleaner, I tried to go through and get them out but may have missed one)

It seems this post has evolved by the time I finally got my account working.

I also had this problem as well, in my case it's also broken for Iron which makes sense since if the custom location is broken. at first I thought it was the path but after having messed around with it for a bit I found it was indeed the custom location that was the problem. I sent in an email describing the problem which has been "passed on to the 2nd Line support team for further investigation" so hopefully they will get around to fixing this soon.

In the mean time thanks Nergal I will add those entries in my personal winapp2 :)
