I use CCleaner for many years, and on different computers. And it never caused any, and the slightest mistake or problem.

But, after using the tablet HP Slate 2, two months ago, CCleaner was devastated of both cameras on this computer device.

Because I've never had a problem all these years with CCleaner, I was not made a registry backup and cannot make recovery. But Windows system recovery is not passed repair the camera, and I had to send the computer for the third time in service, because the first two times they could not reveal the CCleaner cause of destruction tablet HP Slate 2 cameras.

Please get rid of it in the system fault, that it no longer happens, because it cost me very much money. :(

Regards from Croatia.

It always helps to mention a few things:

Windows version. Edit, nevermind you have that in the topic title, you're on Windows 7.

CCleaner version.

Are you by chance using Wipe Free Space on those camera's when they're plugged into your computer?

1) Never Clean everything that ANY registry cleaner tells you. Only remove that which you know you don't need

2) You were offered (and you even admit to consciously ignoring) the chance to back up what you removed. doing this in conjunction with cleaning each section individually and following 1 above You would have had none of this issues

3) Registry cleaner removes only registry entries, this means it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to have harmed the actual hardware.

4) I happen to have a slate2 right here. Freshly setup. I'm attaching a list of everything that CCleaner 3.21 found, none related to the camera(s), app or drivers.

I really don't think that CCleaner is what is causing your issue (based on your description) but even if it was...

5) You should have a DVD labeled Application and Driver Recovery Disc. Using either an externally connected or network shared DVD-ROM drive, this disc should have allowed you to reinstall the items at fault.

Can you tell us what was removed? Was the hardware for the camera(s) showing in device manager (under Imaging Devices you should see HP Webcam) if so did it have a yellow exclamation point? The Hardware itself seems to use Microsoft Provided Drivers. Is it only the HP Camera APP or are other apps unable to use it either (Skype or Flash for instance). What is the EXACT error that you see?

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

I have some time before posted on HP Support forum HP Support forum. Strange is this, all drivers (include cameras) work properly after using CCleaner, But i have check more time, cameras stopped work after install and run CCleaner, no other applications. I dont know, maybe HP tablets work on some other principe from other win7 PCs.

Exact is after that, I run HP cameras aplication, it runing, runig few minute and show cameras pictogram with "slash" .look on picture

My apologies company Piriform. It seems that CCleaner is not to blame for the stopped of the camera on the tablet HP Slate 2.

The authorized HP service in Croatia found that one to run Windows service blocks the camera working. Everything is explained here:

PS.

Nergal, can I use Your attached registry.txt file on post 3 with extension changing on .reg, like restore registry data for HP Slate 2 ?

Thanks and regards

Glad you got it figured out (what a pain for you, yuck)

Simply, No. The file I posted is just (for my specific machine) everything that the Cleaner found in the regsitry integrity section (unfiltered). It does not contain mergable information.

I know you're asking Nergal, however; it's often best to reinstall the drivers/software if they've become damaged on your system. Importing a saved registry file may not fix everything!

Yes this.
