Speccy 1.15.309 Runtime Error?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Long time user, first time poster.

I was recently updating Speccy on my brother's old desktop and now every time I start it, Speccy crashes with a Runtime Error.

The computer stats are as follows: WinXP Professional w/Service Pack 3, 1.8ghz AMD AthlonXP 2800+ processor, 1.5gbs RAM

I've tried debug mode, and the following is all I see in the Debug text log file (as in that's it, that is the only line, nothing else!), there are no .dmp files in the Speccy directory:

"[2012-02-20 09:46:34] [iNFO ] CPU SDK at: C:\DOCUME~1\Kristan\LOCALS~1\Temp speccycpuid.dll"

The program starts normally and then within a few seconds, crashes with the runtime error. It has always worked flawlessly before (although it was doing this a bit with the last version of Speccy, but very rarely and it usually worked). If I watch it as it tries to start, everything says "Analyzing" and the only info that appears normally is for the "Optical Drives" and "Audio" before it crashes with the runtime error - everything else still says Analyzing at the time it crashes.

Thoughts? I am at a loss and I find Speccy to be a wonderful piece of software and very handy! Thanks for all the hard work you folks do! Just hoping I can get it working again :)

When you do debug mode does it crash? Are you checking any of the boxes for debug mode

You need to use these boxes to figure out which Item is causing the crash or if something else is happening.

Check each box 1 by 1

  1. start debug mode
  2. check first box (Analyze CPU) only
  3. if no crash > exit
  4. start debug mode
  5. check the next (or the sub heading of the current one)
  6. repeat steps 3-6 until you've tested each one and collected and logs or dumps created for crashes

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

HI - I am checking ALL the boxes in debug mode from the get-go. Also, It does crash on debug mode as well.

I will try checking one debug mode at a time, although I don't think it will make any difference as it seems to be crashing before debug mode has a chance to do anything, so to speak. :(

Thank you for the log, the developers read all threads so I'm sure they'll look into your log. As yours is also sparce (I assume this log is from a crash though it shows none) please hold on the the dump files incase the developers need them

Thanks Nergal.

Will do. Speccy in debug mode didn't crash with anything else selected, their logs have much more information, but if hard drive is selected (either alone or with everything else) the log I've attached is all that appears. Hope they make sense of it!

Regards,

Mike

  • 3 weeks later...

With Windows XP Pro SP3 and latest .Nets - no problems with Speccy on my 2005 Dell.

With Windows XP Home SP3 and latest .Nets, on my 2003 Dell (BUT iPv6 Helper Service fails with Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error, so I have it off).

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Speccy\Speccy.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Versions from at least Speccy v.8 on will display this at Hard Drive analysis. However, I can just drag the error message out of the way and view other results - real time Graphics Temp, CPU speed etc.

If I run in Debug Mode, and only check Hard Drives, the log just shows link to Temp folder with very recent HPZIDS.log and speccycpuid.dll.

Upon Speccy crash - when close the error window - receive DMP file.

How do I open it?
