Moderators Andavari Posted August 29, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 29, 2012 Palemoon appear to be more honest than Mozilla. At least the Palemoon release notes are very easy to find versus Firefox's.
Corona
Waterfox 15 came out. Works good. Supports Java7 update7 which is not a threat like Java7 update5. But I got NoScript, so I'm cool with that.
Tr3bg0D
Anyone else notice the Ctrl/Shift/M shortcut and the purpose of it? It used to be for WinMailNotifier and now opens some resizing window.
Super Fast
Not used it in a long time. Thanks, Tr3. Very cool, haha!
Tr3bg0D
I don't understand the purpose of it. It's not like I can easily add another window next to it so why resize????
Super Fast
Perhaps it is so that users can check what a page will look like at a custom resolution, seeing common resolutions listed in top left of the window?

nodles
meh done. is this topic needed? Firefox self updates now Not everyone let it update itself, I guess. Also I'd post new Thunderbird releases and was thinking about posting Waterfox & Palemoon updates here also.

Moderators rridgely Posted October 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 Something to consider Nodles: Use a free hosting site to create a website like Calendar of Updates: http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/index.php?app=calendar Except talk about all kinds of software rather than just security stuff. I'd be up for creating a pinned topic for you on the forum. Only if your up for it though, would be a lot of work. I wonder if you could use google calandar and just publish it for others to see? May be more work than that, I have no clue.

Winapp2.ini
Thanks nodles. rridgely, I've found myself thinking that Firefox doesn't seem to have the same snappiness as Chrome recently, though I run many extensions on firefox and none in chrome. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
TheWebAtom
the last few firefox releases have been dog slow compared to the previous versions Mozilla have been changing their compilation tools lately. It seems that Firefox is now much faster on high end hardware; but those on older (or less widely used) CPU's have seen a performance decrease. I suspect this is also why they've had to drop Windows 2000 and Windows XP (non SP3) support for many features. Palemoon appear to be more honest than Mozilla.Palemoon release notes commence :- Quote This is a new release based on the Gecko 15.0 code base with additional branch development. http://www.palemoon....enotes-ng.shtml I searched the Firefox and Thunderbird links and they do not mention any GECKO. Oh Alan; you never cease to amuse me. Gecko is the name of the layout engine Mozilla have been using since Firefox 1.0. In fact; I'm fairly sure it was part of the old Mozilla Suite before Firefox even existed. I'm Shane.

I also hate the new default interface. Really disappointed with the direction FF is going. There was a topic on here where me and SuperFast were dicussing that, can't find the topic at the moment though - Edit: Found it that topic is here. The slowdown I first noticed in version 15. I've since moved on to Comodo Dragon, albeit it has it's own unique issues but at least it isn't slow like Firefox. If you want to see just how slow Firefox is visit Softpedia.com for awhile looking at many pages, and even user reviews, Firefox chocks on my system there and even seems to be frozen on many pages sometimes up to 2 minutes. Edit 2: rridgely, you may be interested in this post of mine here. Edited October 10, 2012 by Andavari

IPv6, shouldn't be causing that much havoc and the slowness I experienced is only because of Firefox. And regardless of rather your hardware supports it or not you go through your ISP that can make things compatible on their end.
Super Fast
I think some of the intermittent slowness may be due to that http v6 thingy or whatever it's called. Seems fine on my system. If it's caused by using IP4, you can easily install IP6 in internet options on XP. 7 comes with it already installed. If it's due to using a new Firefox with an old profile, see my post that Andavari has kindly linked to. Edit: When I updated from 14 to 15 of FF, it started taking 30 seconds to a minute to load pages (instead of 8 or 10 seconds). Sometimes longer. After completely deleting the old FF profile folder, then letting the new version create a brand new profile, it dropped to 3 seconds to load a page. I have a feeling that you have upgraded consecutively, but FF15 & up use a different way of managing the profile container. So if your still using an old profile container, it will be dog slow till you delete it & let it create a brand new one to work with. I used MozBackup to save my old bookmarks/passwords, then closed FF & deleted the old profile. I then installed the new FF, let it create a new profile, then closed FF & used MozBackup to import the old settings. Works great!
Moderators rridgely Posted October 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2012 I'm using chrome regularly(even though I don't like it) because firefox is so slow. I have done clean installs and even tried it on a fresh windows install. Chrome does some weird stuff but it has been nice having synched bookmarks between my phone, tablet, desktop, and laptop.
