Moderators rridgely Posted August 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3220862 HP is dumping their tablet brand and selling them off for $99! If your a student you can get them for $75. I got 2 of them for me and my fiancee for $180 with shipping. The downside is your buying a dying product with virtually zero support. On the upside you got a really cool tablet that can do pretty much anything that they all can for $100.

Moderators Andavari Posted August 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 I thought it was going to be a complaint as if it were cheaply made and fell apart, and he was warning us about it.
Moderators rridgely Posted August 20, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 Funny, I guess I'm glad you guys read it first. I'm actually really excited about this. I played with one when they came out at $500 and really liked it. I would be pissed since I got it so cheap now. I really like Web OS but I'm hoping to find a way to get android on it so that I always have an up to date OS.
Winapp2.ini
you can probably try flashing Android on to it, but that can be risky if it doesn't support the hardware. winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators rridgely Posted August 20, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 Yeah, I'm not going to do it anytime soon. The hardware inside is pretty similar to all the other tablets so I figure someone will figure out a way to do it eventually. Web OS is pretty cool, I just plan to move to android once its not supported anymore with things like flash.

Moderators hazelnut Posted August 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 Thanks for that read Andavari. When I first heard that HP was going to concentrate on software instead of PC's, my first thought was how long will it take for them to develop a real killer printer software Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Moderators Andavari Posted August 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 20, 2011 how long will it take for them to develop a real killer printer software How long = Never!!! Although the printer/scanner hardware is top quality, the software that runs it completely ruins the whole experience.
redhawk
Are you sure this deal is real?? it sounds too good to be true just like the "Win an iPad2" scam that's been filling my inbox. As for Android OS anything's possible after all the iPhone got PWN3D I don't see any reason the HP can't be hacked as well. Richard S.
slowday444
rridgely you are the man! I like to drive by here at least weekly and happened to notice your post around noon Eastern DST. I went to the link a few times and I swear, the "red" text after Staples, stating the managers would match the drop price wasn't originally there, although I don't really know that for sure. I called our local Staples which is 25 miles from here and as expected they didn't have a clue about the whole situation. However, unexpected they called back in 15 minutes to inform me they'd hold a 32gb (all they had but what I preferred) until 5:00 PM. I informed the rest of the family before I left and they all were interested, although my daughter and her husband have found they are all sold out in Boston. My son's store was also sold out but he called me as I was pulling into the lot and I purchased the last two. Now the hard part, what do you all know about the webOS? I purchased this as basically an "enhanced" e-reader for my wife as I have no interest in one. What security apps will work with it, what freeware will function, etc? Thank you! Moderators rridgely Posted August 21, 2011 Author Moderators Share Posted August 21, 2011 Web OS is a Palm customized version of Linux. I don't have mine yet(as I ordered online), but I'll be sure to post about it once they come.(5-7 days. ) I did however get them for a little cheaper with a student discount so I guess I can wait. Does anyone know who in the UK is selling them at discount prices?? Richard S. Most of them sold out after the uk announcement by HP yesterday. Staples has none at all left in uk. Apparently Argos and Play.com still have some... but at the old prices. I spoke to Play.com and they said they had no plans to sell them at the discounted prices. http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/873205-hp-touchpad-uk-sale-our-guide-to-finding-a-cut-price-tablet Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Moderators Andavari Posted August 23, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 23, 2011 I spoke to Play.com and they said they had no plans to sell them at the discounted prices. They must also be planning on them gathering dust on some shelves for several years because only a knucklehead would pay full price for them now. login123
Good for you, rridgely. I overslept and missed that train. Will be interested to see how it goes, if you care to post it up here. login123
Got an email from HP, Had a link to here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/go/touchpadfaqs?jobnum=em_r329_hhos_5986&aoid=82293, it said in part " ... we are working to make more available as soon as possible." Also found this: http://h20435.www2.hp.com/t5/The-Next-Bench-Blog/More-TouchPads-on-the-Way/ba-p/68749 which says in part: "More TouchPads on the Way ... Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. ..." redhawk
It seems bizarre that a tablet computer with pretty decent hardware should be dropped especially when there is still a market for such devices. I can understand WebOS being a dead-end OS so why don't they switch to Android instead?? Richard S.
login123
Same thoughts here. HP has made some strange business decisions in the last 3 or 4 years. I think this one was a mistake, they sold 270,000 of them in a day or two. The $99 price was probably break-even or a bit better. Had they dropped the price to, say $200, $225, and kept the line going, well ... Rridgely said earlier that there is an initiative to get them working with Android. Moderators Nergal Posted September 2, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 2, 2011 This topic makes nergal sad. He wishes that everyone had seen how good WebOS was before HP shoved the stake in it's slow beating heart. He has discussed this topic til his face turned blue and fell off. All he can do is cry now. He loves WebOS RRidgely, be sure to get Preware Homebrew documentation. It'll teach you how to install preware and the over the air kernel updates Touch pad runs best at 1.7 ghz. Also open the phone and video calls APP and type ##logs# in phone letters m(so ##5647#) and press the green send button.
