hurleycat
Hi - I have updated to latest version of ccleaner and have set it to wipe the free space on my main C drive using the Gutmann security level. It starts the process but when it gets to it just flicks back to the main screen the same as just before you click the "wipe button" As i had left it to run as there was hours to go and wasntt sure at what stage it finished I set up a video camera onto the screen and the scan ends at 7% of the scan - with 11 hours and 4 seconds remaining and only 6477MB of 87494MB completed. I have tried this several times with the same result. Why wont it complete the wipe? Any help appreciated

Moderators Andavari Posted June 18, 2011 Moderators Share Posted June 18, 2011 To help clarify your problem please provide the following information: * Your operating system version, i.e.; is it Windows XP, Vista, or 7 * The version of CCleaner you're using, will display at the upper-left in CCleaner when you open it. * Are you certain you're using Wipe Free Space or instead the Drive Wiper. Also from what I know Wipe Free Space will only do a Simple 1-pass wipe, it won't do a Gutmann 35-pass even if you have Gutmann enabled.

Moderators Andavari Posted June 19, 2011 Moderators Share Posted June 19, 2011 oops forgot - it is the drive wiper under tools im using Some people have reported some problems getting Drive Wiper to work, just look around the CCleaner area of the forums to realize this. By now I'm sure the developers know of the issue which they should be able to fix in an upcoming version. Edit: I've changed your topic title to "Drive Wiper doesn't work" since "help please" isn't specific enough as to what this topic is about. Super Fast
Hurley, there are several reasons why a drive wipe may not work. If this is an internal drive, you need to download/burn/run DBAN. -> IMGBurn can burn DBAN. If this is an external drive, you need to right click the drive & format it. Choose quick format. This will work when long format won't, & provides a clean MFT to work with. If you try the long format or to wipe before doing this, a corrupted MFT can cause it to fail. Do the quick format, then try running a 1 pass clean in CCleaner. Make sure you update to 3.08 first before running it. If you are paranoid, try running the 3 pass solution. Hope this helps!
