Moderators Andavari Posted November 22, 2005 Moderators Share Posted November 22, 2005 Thanks for the info! This new version with new definition files will remove the Sony XCP DRM, and from info gathered so will the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool that's released in December. So is it worth getting then, despite the deals they have been doing with spyware companys?
Moderators Andavari Posted November 23, 2005 Moderators Share Posted November 23, 2005 It's up to you if you want to use MSAS or not. Personally I have it installed and I'm even using the real-time protection. Whatsmore none of my other scanners have found anything suspicious with MSAS those would be Ad-Aware, ClamWin Free Antivirus, eTrust EZ Antivirus, Ewido, and Spybot S&D. Ultimate Predator
You've changed your mind a fair bit. As it is a new version, I might give it a new spin and see what it's like, as Turan pointed out Ad-Aware has done dealings in the past with Spyware companys. Tarun
Pretty much all anti-spyware companies do. This new MSAS was also posted under the Sony Rootkit thread too a day or two ago.

Ultimate Predator
Pretty much all anti-spyware companies do. Which is a shame, but then again with a variety of different scanners as Tarun pointed out, everyone should be fine. I still won't use it for real scanning, Arovax does so much more. Moderators Andavari Posted November 23, 2005 Moderators Share Posted November 23, 2005 You've changed your mind a fair bit. 22793 Yes I have. However, MSAS ranks like ZoneAlarm on my system meaning it's on a fine edge between staying on my system and being uninstalled. If it's annoying restart/shutdown/logoff issues happen too much it will be uninstalled.

Besides, it has never detected a thing on my system but Adaware and Spybot have. And I don't mean cookies either. Would Arovax be a good replacement? Moderators Andavari Posted November 24, 2005 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2005 Would Arovax be a good replacement? 22815 If you're talking about their antispyware I don't know, it's still rather new however it will probably improve given some time. I'll probably try it again sometime next year.

It has stopped so much spyware entering my PC its amazing, and when I use my on-demand scanners little is found now, its a great program, well worth getting.
