Hi,

I'll post here various folders I've noticed that wasn't cleaned by CCleaner accros multiple versions.

Maybe some of those are already managed.

C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session

See : http://forums.lenovo...-p/90544/page/2

"You must keep system, temp, QuestResponse.xml and updates.ser, or else System Update won't start. You can safely delete all other directories."

Size : 2.2 GB for me.

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Contain Windows update temp folder.

Size : 800 MB

C:\Program Files\Google\Update\Download

Google update folder

Size : 22 MB

%CURRENT_USER%\Application Data\Easeware\DriverEasy\drivers\*.*

The driver updater DriverEasy (www.drivereasy.com) download updates.

Size : 130 MB

%CURRENT_USER%\Application Data\Easeware\DriverEasy\updates\*.*

New software version are stored here

Size : 5 MB

What is %CURRENT_USER% ?

I am not aware of it and CMD.EXE fails to recognize it as a variable, and it does not seem to be used in WinApp2.ini.

%APPDATA% is fully recognised and is used in WinApp2.ini.

Is "%APPDATA%\" the same as "%CURRENT_USER%\Application Data\" ?

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download : Depends on your computer. On a fresh Windows Vista installation, it may be huge.

For Google, Maybe they have changed it. Can't we add both of them ?

this has been previously discussed to death, Microsoft states that that area should not be cleaned

If users want to clean it on their own, they can. I've done it without ill-effect, Winapp2.ini gets hundreds of thousands of downloads a month, most likely many of those don't understand the implications, and they'll come here asking about it. Probably just too much of a headache.

I'll add the ProgramFiles directory to the Google Update entry

My entries for Nokia Suite.

[Nokia Suite Installer Cache*]
LangSecRef=3021
DetectFile=%CommonAppData%\NokiaInstallerCache
Default=False
FileKey1=%CommonAppData%\NokiaInstallerCache\PackageCache|*.*|RECURSE
FileKey2=%CommonAppData%\NokiaInstallerCache\ProductCache|*.log|RECURSE

[Nokia Suite Updater Cache*]
LangSecRef=3021
Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Nokia\Nokia Suite
Warning=This will remove Nokia phone firmwares, applications and all other files stored by Nokia Suite Updater. Files will be re-downloaded when updating phone next time.
Default=False
FileKey1=%CommonAppData%\Nokia\Nokia Suite\NOSSU2|*.*|RECURSE
ExcludeKey1=FILE|%CommonAppData%\Nokia\Nokia Suite\NOSSU2\Flash|*.*
ExcludeKey2=FILE|%CommonAppData%\Nokia\Nokia Suite\NOSSU2\usergroups.cfg

Tested on vista. Locations on Xp should be the same according to nokia forums.

Edit: Both entries had own problems. Edited them and now repair install and uninstall works, as well as the updater. Should have tested more before posting! ;)

Entry for old Nokia Software Updater 3, which is not anymore available by nokia as it is included in the new Nokia Suite. By google search, it can be still downloaded and used.

[Nokia Software Updater 3 Cache*]
LangSecRef=3021
Detect=HKCU\Software\Nokia\NSU3
Warning=This will remove Nokia phone firmwares, applications and all other files stored by Nokia Software Updater. Files will be re-downloaded when updating phone next time.

ExcludeKey1=FILE|%LocalAppData%\Nokia\NSU3\NOSSU2\Flash|*.*
ExcludeKey2=FILE|%LocalAppData%\Nokia\NSU3\NOSSU2\usergroups.cfg

Also I had files stored on my system by older version of Nokia Software Updater (~200mb) which paths are not used on newer versions. Found older version also by google, but it couldn't be used anymore. Updating to new version or closing the program were the only options available.

[Nokia Software Updater Cache - Old Versions*]
LangSecRef=3021
DetectFile1=%CommonAppData%\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A
DetectFile2=%CommonProgramFiles%\Nokia\Service Layer\A
Warning=This will remove all files stored by old version of Nokia Software Updater, which is no longer supported or available.

FileKey2=%CommonProgramFiles%\Nokia\Service Layer\A|*.*|REMOVESELF

%CommonAppData% is an entry that only works in W7 and not in XP. To make it work in XP (and Vista?) you need to rework these entries.

In CCleaner it does not matter as it will properly know where to look, otherwise on my XP system dozens of cleaners I've made wouldn't even work:

%CommonAppData% = The All User Profile

The environment path %ProgramData% works only in vista/7, and not it Xp.

But in DetectFile paths section it is stated that,

%CommonAppData%

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data

Windows Vista/7: C:\ProgramData

This was just what I needed for my entries. Isn't this the right way to use the %CommonAppData%?

Btw here are all the paths for windows xp:

nokia installer cache

C:\documents and settings\All users\Application Data\NokiaInstallerCache

nokia suite updater

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Suite\NOSSU2

nokia software updater 3

C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia\NSU3\NOSSU2

old nokia software updater

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Service Layer\A

If you delete this file, you WILL have to reinstall Microsoft Office:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA\OPA11.BAK

CCleaner should already be deleting stuff in here by default (make sure you have enabled/ticked in the large Cleaner button: Windows->System->Temporary Files):

C:\Documents and Settings\Charles\Local Settings\Temp\

I also have this file, but have no ideal if it's safe to remove or not, which is why I've left it alone on my system, more noteworthy many disk cleaning tools that religiously target the .BAK extension don't even offer to clean it:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\NtmsData\NTMSDATA.BAK

Like I've already stated if you delete it then Microsoft Office is going to need reinstalled, no way around that as I've been there and done that in the past which is why in EasyCleaner I have it ignored.

That Google search doesn't tell me much though. :lol: It isn't some piece of malware on my system as most of those search results seem to think. Possibly just some junk file created by Windows, and looking at it in a hex editor doesn't reveal much either.

I'm not convinced that ntmsdata.bak is safe for regular cleaning but only in extreme cases such as

On my system NTMSDATA.BAK is identical to the regular one without an extension "NTMSDATA", they have matching MD5 / SHA-1 checksums. That and AVG Free and MBAM find nothing wrong with it and neither does Jotti or VirSCAN.org.

After being annoyed by the Notepad window size which wouldn't remember my settings I came up with this new cleaning entry:

[MS Notepad*]
LangSecRef=3025
Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Notepad
Default=False
Warning=If Notepad stops remembering your window size settings using this cleaner will reset it back to the original Windows default size.
RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Notepad|iWindowPosDX
RegKey2=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Notepad|iWindowPosDY
RegKey3=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Notepad|iWindowPosX
RegKey4=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Notepad|iWindowPosY
