Basically, it provides a GUI front-end to the built-in Windows Vista/7 firewall and makes it a lot more useful. It offers features similar to other third-party firewalls like pop-ups asking for permission for apps to access the internet, something the Windows firewall doesn't support by default. A paid version if offered, but the free version offers plenty of functionality. There is also a XP version. So far, it's working great on both my XP Pro and 7 Ultimate machines.
