Cormac2112
Hi Folks, I was wondering if it was possible to set up CC to be able to wipe spaces on CD's or DVD's. When I go and delete things off of a DVD that I have made, it removes the information but it still shows on the DVD that the now freed up space isn't free at all. In some cases the damn thing shows I have less space then I had before I deleted the information. I wasn't sure how hard it would be to put that feature in or if it can even be done. Thanks, Cormac
Winapp2.ini
If its not a DVD-RW deleting files wont free up the space. Welcome to the forums winapp2.ini additions thread winapp2.ini github
Moderators Andavari Posted November 21, 2010 Moderators Share Posted November 21, 2010 Sounds like you're using packet-writing software on your discs, and deleting anything off a packet-written disc won't give you extra free space. If you really want those discs completely empty to regain space you'll have to use your CD/DVD/Blu-ray burning software to Full Erase/Format them, consult the burning software documentation to learn how to do that. One other thing if you're making critical backups I'd recommend not packet-writing your discs!!! Cormac2112
Hi and thank you for the quick response to my question and the friendly hello. I was under the impression that the disc's that I was using were DVD-RW, the are actually DVD+R discs. As for the packer writing, I was using Microsoft's burning software that is in my Win 7. It said in a pop up that if I wanted to use this disc in other machines and if I wanted to be able to remove information at a later time, then I had to use this one format. I didn't know at the time that it was packet-writing. Thank you for the link to Wiki, I learned something new today. Roxio came with the system, I've used it once but didn't like it that much. Makes me wish I still had my old Nero Burning Rom software. Thank you both again for your help. Cormac
Moderators Andavari Posted November 22, 2010 Moderators Share Posted November 22, 2010 You may be able to more simplify your burning using ImgBurn (freeware), which will finalize discs and has a ton of options. I don't know how the CD/DVD burning is in Win7, however in WinXP it never finalizes discs which could be an issue with some hardware.

Plain and simple burn your discs with a 3rd party burning software to avoid issues!
mr don
Roxio came with the system, I've used it once but didn't like it that much. Makes me wish I still had my old Nero Burning Rom software. There is a really good & free program here ---> http://infrarecorder.org/ Many use it to replace Nero, & it does support disk erasing/fixating/audio disks, video disks, data disks, etc. Totally free, plenty simple enough to use. Perhaps this will help solve all your burning problems when combined with IMGBurn that someone else listed earlier. Both are excellent bloat free programs.
