Cleaning FTP Accounts?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Recently, CCleaner has added the option under System to clean FTP Accounts. Could you please provide more information about what this does? I'm wondering what the implications are, if this is selected. I am using Windows XP Home SP 3.

Thanks,

Newt

FTP is File Transfer Protocol. See here for an explanation.

Thanks for your reply. I am familiar with FTP itself (I have used FileZilla client to upload files such as web pages to remote servers). However, I am not sure what "FTP Account" means in the context of my local system that CCleaner cleans.

This has been asked often but hasn't yet been answered by the devs

however what it does is delete (which windows will remake empty) the registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Ftp\Accounts

This key stores the information that is made when you use windows explorer to connect to a ftp (file transfer protocol) site (i.e. a remotly stored website directory where you upload your website to make it live). This key has the following information: Site, Username, Password.

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

If I get a chance I plan on downloading filezilla to make a ccleaner winapp2.ini entry. So that may be coming soon (No Promises ;) )
