What do you use your PC for?

Hey, its getting bit dull over here so I wondered if you guys could tell me what exactly do you use your PC for? What are your essential software(s)?

I am a student in the 12th grade, so its mainly for research, multimedia, not-too-intensive gaming.

iTunes (now Foobar2000)

Firefox (lol)

VLC

Picasa, Photoshop

Office 2010, Wordweb

Internet Download Manager!

Simplicity is hard.

Mostly for multimedia, well probably 99% of the time:

* Music

* Movies

The software that makes it possible:

* Audacity Portable (audio editing)

* CDex (CD ripping)

* Foobar2000 (music playback)

* MPUI with MPlayer (playing videos/movies)

* VLC Media Player Portable (playing videos/movies)

* XP Codec Pack (playing videos/movies)

Mines a gaming rig but

mIRC

Pidgin

?Torrent

SMPlayer / VLC

Zune

Heres to us, fellow 12th grade IB Student! :lol:

Hah, I use uTorrent too, it gets a bit illegal sometimes :rolleyes:

I have a laptop and it gets so damn hot while playing GUI intensive games that it shuts down. :(

Simplicity is hard.

I lied about the Ornithology but I have / had use my PC for:

-Watching TV (Freeview) + recording using a BT878 PCI capture card

-Watch YouTube or DailyMotion Videos TV shows music clips etc

-IM with friends, send emails, read emails and laugh at my spam messages

-Transmit wireless audio @ 320kbps mp3 around the house using my Bluetooth USB dongle + headset

-Rip Audio CDs to create mp3 files for my iRiver mp3 player

-Download images and videos from my Sony digital camera and upload them to YouTube sometimes

-Help on other technical forums and mod for one

-Write scripts for mIRC (IRC: ban, filter, OP protection, trivia cheat | server emulation: IRCD, IDENTD, CDDP), eggdrop TCL, LSL

-Code using Turbo / Free Pascal with embedded assembly, and Microsoft Visual C++ (still learning the basics)

-Collect 8 bit home computer emulators + games mainly the Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga

-Listen to SLAY Radio an Internet radio station dedicated to remixes and re-interpretations of Commodore 64 game music :)

I don't blog, I don't twitter the idea of talking to strangers just doesn't appeal to me.

My favourite stuff:

TV application: K!TV for generic BT878 cards without 2K/XP drivers

Media Player: VLC VideoLAN, Mplayer, WinAMP

Video Editing: VirtualDub, MS VidEdit, TMPGEnc DivXLand(sub encoder), CoolEdit

Media Encoders(audio and video): WinLame, ffmpeg + my front end, WinFF (ffmpeg front end)

Image editors: Paint Shop Pro, IrfanView, Gimp

Emulators: VirtalBox, Qemu, DOSBox, WinVice, WinUAE

EXE Compressors: UPX, PECompact (student edition)

System Tools: Process Explorer, Process Monitor, TCPView, Autoruns, Dependency Walker, Resource Hacker, PEBrowse Professional, Cheat Engine, Microsoft Debugging Tools for Windows, SpeedFan

Rootkit detection: Rootkit Unhooker, Radix, IceSword, Kernel Detective, RkTrap, RootRepeal, RootKit Hook Analyzer

Nirsoft Tools: Regscanner, WinLister, WinExplorer, SmartSniff, WebVideoCap, HashMyFiles, NirCmd, SysExporter

AV: System Safety Monitor (HIPS control)

Firewall: Kerio Personal Firewall

I just sit here all day trying to bag a spammer, but hazel gets up too early for me and cleans the place out.

Maybe Nergal and Augeas get a few as well now, and when I take time off to sleep, Andavari comes in and nukes the ones I missed sleeping.

I'll never get my Piriform Laptop at this rate. :(

If I wasn't so dedicated then it would music, movies, photography, watching on line TV which I can't get on my TV, and searching the web for some wicked download links to stick under logins nose. He can't refuse them.

Foobar2000: (Music)

MPlayer with MPUI: (Watching video/movies)

DVDFab HD DeCrypter: (Ripping DVD's. My own of course for backup)

ImgBurn: (Burning DVD's, ISO's, and back-up data disks.)

Mp3tag: (Simply the best MP3 metadata tagger out there)

PhotoFiltre Studio: (Doing stuff with photographs)

Picasa 3: (Photo Organiser with some cool features)

Burrrn: (The only program I would use for burning CD's)

AudioGrabber: (Ripping CD's with "Lame" Encoder. An oldie, but still rocks for me)

This is the stuff I would be using if I had the time.

Back on watch. :(

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

After reading your post Dennis I have decided to stop paying all those people to post spam so that I get to the top of the 'Spam Remover' leader board.

Of course the pull of the Gold Plated laptop from Piriform for the winner made me do it. I'm sorry :(

So I will turn over a new leaf and go back to using my laptop for other things :)

Mainly I am search based, I love finding info online.

I also use my pc for software testing, using Ashampoo for my linux iso burning **waves to Login123**

Decrypter etc. (for legal purposes of course).

Catching up on iplayer if I miss a TV program

Not too into all the music software, just tend to use Windows Media Player.
