Cougar69
Hi all, Not sure what I did, but I installed the latest version of CCleaner on an old Dell with Windows 98. Everything works fine except there is no option (box to check) to perform a "wipe free space". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Aethec
Well, since Win9x have a completely different kernel than Win2k/XP/Vista/7, it might be using something that isn't available on Win9x.. But why would you want to do that anyway ? Piriform French translator
Cougar69
I'm getting rid of the computer and wanted to remove any remnant data that might be on the drive, so I thought the wipe disc option might do that. I don't need anything as extreme as boot n nuke, but just wanted to wipe the free space.
Moderators Nergal Posted August 31, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2010 Wipe Free Space currently requires windows 5.0 (Windows 2000 I believe per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT#Releases) and up [Wipe Free Space]ID=1030 LangSecRef=3004 LangRef=3132 WarningRef=3207 Default=False DetectOS=5.0 SpecialKey1=N_EX_WIPE_MFT_FREE_SPACE SpecialKey2=N_EX_WIPEFREESPACE ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. kroozer
You can wipe free space on Win98 with File Shredder.
