Moderators Nergal Posted August 12, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2010 Are these this months 14 releases? If so I've had no issues on my 25 XP machines. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators DennisD Posted August 12, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2010 I had a power cut yesterday halfway through the downloading, so I've had to do it manually today, and I had what appeared to be an issue for the first time ever. Immediately after the updates were installed, a new to me process, in fact two versions of it, appeared in Task Manager and one of them maxed out my CPU. I let it go for a half minute or so, and with no sign of stopping, and not knowing what it was, I killed it with task manger. As it turns out, it's an MS process explained at this link ... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/davidnotario/archive/2005/04/27/412838.aspx ... and it's been around for a while apparently, but that's the first time I've been aware of it. And although I killed it, I'm still here, so no harm done.

Moderators Andavari Posted August 14, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 14, 2010 Immediately after the updates were installed, a new to me process, in fact two versions of it It's part of Microsoft.NET, and when updating .NET with a service pack or security update it will run afterwords. I just set it's service ".NET Runtime Optimization Service" to Manual when I notice it running, then reboot. I think it "may" actually do all that automatically itself by setting itself to the Manual startup type after awhile if my memory is serving me correctly
Eli
I asked this question about the security updates and guess what ? I finally made the update and my machine went into a deep freeze.... lucky me I made a system restore point + Erunt backup prior to updating... It is beginning to look like these updates bring more trouble to my machine than the remote possibility of a security breach, considering the fact that I`m always running sandboxed.
