Suggested area of the registry to clean

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell

 

I noticed that I have an entry in there pointing to Geoshell even though I don't use that program anymore - not sure, but I bet this takes the system a nanosecond longer on boot up verifying that it isn't there.

That's why you need to clean the registry. If you don't, you can accumulate hundreds of obsolete entries. That adds up to a major slowdown.

 

CCleaner will get most of them, though no cleaner can be relied on to get them all. A few stray entries aren't going to be a problem, anyway.
