Error message on 2.28.1091

Hi,

 

I think I posted incorrectly on this, so am going to try it again. Sorry for the repeat message.

 

I'm on Windows 7 and downloaded the new version of CCleaner 2.28.1091 and I am getting an error, "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.

If I click "continue" about 8 times, the program comes up and works fine. I do not have anything clicked in my registry. I saw in here where someone said to unclick everything in the registry. So I made sure everything was unchecked in there.

 

Also, when I use the "update" on CCleaner, it automatically uses Internet Explorer and my default browser is FireFox. Anything I can do to fix that?

Have you made backups of the registry fixes you made if any??? Try restoring them if you could. If something went wrong with your system, do a system restore.

 

This could also be a problem if one or more of the Windows services are not enabled. Go to the Start Menu and go to Run, type services.msc and press ENTER.

 

I have a slight feeling that it has something to do with the service called Virtual Disk. Make sure that is enabled.

Thanks for your suggestions. Nothing has gone wrong with my system that I know of. But I did go into the Run/services.msc and checked the Virtual Disk and it has nothing under "status" and under "startup type" it has "manual." Under Log on as, it has "local system."

 

I even uninstalled CCleaner and reinstalled it. Same problem.

I was asking you whether you have made backups of the registry fixes you made. If you made backups, try restoring them please and restart the computer for it to take effect.

Those are the last resorts I can think of before you would end up using the Windows Installation disk or some system image backups.

I would not advise a reinstallation of windows just because ccleaner has a problem.

 

You don't have any other issues do you?

 

Sometimes resetting which is your default browser can stop the update browser problem.

 

I tend not to update through the program anyway.

No, I am not having any other problems with my computer. Everything seems to be working okay. Did total virus scan and malware scans (two of them) and nothing but cookies showed up, which I got rid of. Will let you know if I can get a version to work. Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I can try restoring my registry fixes and see if that works. But I have no other issues and I think reinstalling my Windows would be a last and final option. I've done a virus scan with Zone Alarm and Prevx and I'm clean. Plus I did two malware/spyware scans and all I had was a few cookies and got rid of them. I'll keep at it. Thank you.

None of the versions work, I get that same error "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2." But a couple of strange things have happened. I downloaded the very newest version 2.29 (after trying several of the older ones) and now I still get that same error, but there are times I only have to click it one time before it lets me in. Before I had to click it about 6 times repeatedly each time and then it would let me in. The other strange thing is, after I got in, I went into my "options" and there's several choices on the left and one of them is "cookies." I click the "cookies" tab and I get the exact same error and that's the only place it happens. Any thoughts from anyone?

 

I use FireFox as my default browser. And I just checked and it still says it's my default browser. Thank you. Shirley

Hi,

 

Can you please go to Cleaner screen and for each Cookie option (there is one under IE, FF, Opera, Google Chrome and under Multimedia is called Adobe Flash Player...ignore those you don't have) right click and select Analyze? You can also try the "Clean" option if "Analyze" doesn't display the error dialog.

 

Let us know which cookie option cause the dialog to show up.

 

Also, you can run analyze/clean on each and every entry in the Cleaner screen (one at a time) and find out which one is displaying the error dialog...let us know

You know, I had a hard time cleaning the temporary files and cookies out of my Internet Explorer and it wouldn't do it within IE, I had to go to my Windows Explorer and do it last week. I hardly ever use IE unless I absolutely have to, so don't mess with it too much. It will analyze IE's temporary internet folders and I''m cleaning it out right now. Any ideas? Well, it's been on 2% cleaning the temporary internet folders for IE for the past 10 minutes. I'll keep it going for a while, but don't think it's going to go anywhere.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and IE 8. It will not let me clean the cache and cookies, temporary internet files, etc. I wonder maybe I should just uninstall it and then try CCleaner and then download and reinstall a clean version. Do the cookies, temporary files, etc., come off automatically when you uninstall IE? I thought having to go into Windows Explorer and clean off those files last week was a one-time thing. I just don't ever use IE enough to mess with it. Any thoughts?

Yes, that's how I'm doing it. It doesn't give me an error. Just sits there and looks like it's going to do it, but never does. And then when I try to cancel it because it's been spinning for several minutes, it won't respond. so have to do a control/alt/delete and close it down.

That doesn't sound too healthy. Have you tried restoring to the default IE settings? Bottom button on the Tools / Internet Options / Advanced tab.

I don't have Windows 7 so I can't give concrete suggestions. I did google uninstalling IE8 on W7 but information seems a bit sparse. Maybe IE8 is actually tied into the OS build, so you may not be able to literally uninstall. In the absence of other suggestions your best bet might be to trawl around for articles on repairing IE8 on W7; that or articles with people having similar issues.

 

As for deleting files you should be able to clear most if not all manually.

 

The only other thing that springs to mind is to try deleting them (thro' Internet Options) in Safe Mode, just in case something else has those files locked.

 

Also, some of the other things you've described in earlier posts don't sound too healthy either; the \Device\Harddisk volume references. If problems persist you might need to consider other actions.

Thank you for that site. I will read up on it and see what it says. The funny thing is that I went into the safe mode and CCleaner popped right up on one try and cleaned everything off. Came back into my regular mode and got that same message again!

What were the diagnostics that sorted out IE? This might help someone else.

 

Can you get to 'Disk Management'? Try 'Windows key' + R to get the 'Run' dialog box, then type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. You should (assuming this works for W7) get the Disk Management display. Can you maximise it, take a screenshot and post it here.

Well, it won't copy in here for me. I'm sure it's me! I did save it to a Word document and will attach it.

 

What I did to make IE work is the following:

 

Click Start

Start button

, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

 

 

Configure Selective Startup options

 

1. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

2. Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

Note The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.

3. Click the Services tab.

4. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

5. Click Disable All, and then click OK.

6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

 

After I did that, it seemed to be working. I still need to start taking some things out to see if I can figure out what brings makes it have a problem again. But haven't had time to do that yet.

 

 

What were the diagnostics that sorted out IE? This might help someone else.
