Impossible: 11 Exabytes Cleaned

When I run CCleaner, it reports 11.99 Exabytes (11,993,297,347,015.4MB) was cleaned. Impossible.

Just thought I'd bring this up :)

You obviously faked it. Looking at the list of deleted items, they could not possible add up to the number of "exabytes" you said were cleaned. It seems impossible and very unlikely for a PC to have even one thousand terabytes and you know that the word "exabytes" doesn't even exist. I think you better post it here in this thread instead.

I love computer maintenance tasks.

Some of my favorite programs:

Wordpad -basic word processing

Notepad - temporary clipboard and basic scripting module

Windows Media Player 12- video, music and online radio player

Windows Media Center - live TV, local FM radio

CCleaner- handy computer maintenance tool

If something fails to work after using the registry cleaner, use SYSTEM RESTORE.

Hi Rob, and welcome to Piriform.

I think Ishi may have been a wee bit too quick in replying, as I seem to remember this oddity happening before, and one of us, maybe hazel, knew the cause for this amazing amount of deleted data being displayed.

Unfortunately, I can't as yet find any of the previous links.

And there actually is such a thing as an Exabyte, although I confess I've never heard the term until now.

Even if this "exabyte" exists, according to Wikipedia 1 exabyte is equals to 1 billion gigabyte and now make that 11 billion gigabytes, I don't think that a drive for a PC even has one tenth of that capacity exists today. In fact, Mozilla's dictionary doesn't even recognize this word since its rare.

If you add up the sum of MBs of the deleted items there below, its impossible they would reach to that number.

Thanks for the info DennisD.

If this did happen, it could be a bug.

Some users with very, very, large amounts of data listed as being cleaned had more than one version of Internet Explorer installed or use IETester.

Actually, no, I didn't fake anything. This is exactly what it tells me no matter how many files are deleted (or how much in size per application gets deleted).

This just started doing this to me. I don't even have a TB of that space (~750GB Total).

Not sure what else you guys would need to try and track this; but since I'm one of two people who's ran into this, then I don't see it being a big deal heh. I just thought it was funny how it cleaned all that space, especially since it doesn't exist.

And yes, Exabyte does exist, it's what comes right after a terabyte. There's also zettabytes (1024 exabytes), yottabytes (1024 exabytes), brontobytes (1024 yottabytes) and even geopbytes (1024 brontobytes). You can view more info here: http://www.whatsabyte.com/

Anyways, thanks for the replies :)

Erroneous amounts reported by CCleaner have happened before, and it really isn't our business to tell someone they've "faked it." It's just a bug report.

On another note unfortunately Mozilla's dictionary doesn't seem to know allot of words or corrections from some words, which is why I use tinySpell free edition.

Hi, just for fun, I bumped into this error using Firefox and a Firefox knockoff, K-Meleon. Still 11 exabytes, 8 years later.

CCleaner 5.27.5976 64-bit.

It's not a problem.

Hi! And welcome to the forum :)

Your CCleaner version appears to be about a year out-of-date. Does the problem persist on v5.39?
