Stevoisiak
If there's one thing we all hate on a new PC, it's unwanted software. (The lack of which being one of the many reasons why I love Ubuntu) We all know about it. But unfortunately, it's hard to tell what is needed, and what is not. Even when searching on Google, it's not easy to find some programs. Here are the programs I'd like to know what they do, and if I can get rid of them. I have omitted certain programs I know I want for your convenience. I am running a 64 Bit HP Laptop with Windows 7 Premium. Tom AZ
Here's a little utility called PCDecrapifier that may help you a little to sort through things. I've never used it myself, but I know a few people who have -- and it's free for personal use.
Moderators hazelnut Posted December 27, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 27, 2009 It's a tricky one that as some folk actually want some of the pre-installed software However there are one or two sites like this which offer advice http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/04/21/how-t...new-windows-pc/ Read all carefully and if in doubt about an item, leave it until you have had time to research it more. kroozer
Of the 5 disc burning programs on my pc, I rate Cyberlink DVD Suite's Power2Go as the best.
Talldog9
You may also want to use Revo Uninstaller with the option Show System Components enabled. I know HP has some crap that only shows up there (On several old HP XP pc's). You can also use it to remove any leftover files and reg entries the crapware fails to remove with it's own uninstaller (A lot). I also have had to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility once after all the uninstalling to remove an HP entry. It caused a dialog to appear at certain times. YMMV as I have had no experience with Vista let alone 7 version HP's. The internet - Where men are men, women are men and children are FBI agents.
