Everyone will probably have a different opinion here, but personally I wouldn't touch them. The space that empty folders use is negligible, but the hassle of accidentally deleting something that either isn't truly empty, or something that will cause another process to grind to a halt when it tries to write to a temp directory it can't find, isn't.

If you're worried about disk space then empty folders is the least of your problems. If you're worried about access speed I would suggest you use a good defragger like defraggler or diskeeper and trust it to move any truly useless junk out of the way and prioritise stuff that you access regularly.

If you're just a neat freak and prefer things to be tidy, stop looking at your C directory now before you go insane...

I personally oppose, because deleting empty folders has very little benefit for users but may has some caveats:

  1. Empty folders do not occupy any significant disk space
  2. Empty folders rarely pose any significant privacy threat.
  3. Some empty folders are necessary for applications to run properly. Applications sometimes use them as temporary folders and clean them up every now and them.

WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT RUNNING APPLICATION FOLDERS

WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT FOLDER IN THE NAME OF UNINSTALLED

APPLICATIONS, WHICH ARE OF NO USE. IT WILL GIVE A IMPRESSON

THAT CCLEANER NOT ABLE TO UNINSTALL THE APPLICATION FULLY

HOPE WE HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THE SAME IN NEAR FUTURE

First, CCleaner does not uninstall any application. It just cleans up their environment.

Second, regardless of the fact that telling the difference between the identities of the empty folders and their origin is a cumbersome (and sometimes impossible to accomplish) task for CCleaner (or any application), all the caveats that I have mentioned earliers still apply.

Third, you don't really have to shout.

shouting about someting that you are not paying for is very rude.

all ccleaner does is provide a MUCH faster way of accessing the original softwares uninstaller.

ccleaner does not claim to clean up after uninstalation.

...if anyone wishes to construct a non-destructive test as to why blindly removing empty folders is a very bad ideal just remove your TEMP folder from your Windows user profile. In this test expect some software installers, and some installed software which can't deal with that folder missing, they will start displaying errors. Which is exactly why I use a batch file to copy over a Temp Directory Protector file to various locations on my system, and put all sorts of attributes on it so disk cleaning programs can't screw anything up.

Maybe you can search your computer but not include the windows folder, the program files folder, or the documents and settings folder. I realize the only actual use for this would be to make things easier on the eyes, but it still should be put in CCleaner because it's a program to clean things up. I think that any empty folder outside those folders doesn't have to be worried about.

Just a suggestion.

^ What other folders do we have in our computers except Windows folder, Document and Seetings folder, Program Files folder and System Volume Information folder?

Common man, empty folders aren't really a big deal but having an application delete them is a bit risky. It's a too complicated task with little yield. Let's abandon this task to non-artificial intelligence, i.e. ourselves.

Hi, mohamed bassuny. Welcome. :D

Just my opinion, but I'm glad you suggested that, whether it gets used or not. Creative thinking is never easy, but always worth the effort.

edit: I wouldn't delete them all either, but your suggestion made me think about it for the first time.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

  • 5 months later...

when i have the idea in my mind

i think that

not all empty folder will be delete

but there are some folder not to delete

like temp,Favorites,Startup ...etc

but when i instal aprogram

and remove it again

the program leave some folders followed him

this folder must be delete

i know that will not take any space from the HD

but what the reason to be in the system :o

it is empty and not used

=========

i know a program like "Internet Download Manager"

it Create "Documents\Downloads\Compressed.....etc"

it have some empty folders but when delete it

the program Create it again

=========

i used a small program to delete the empty fplder but it is not good

and i never see any "displaying errors"

all displaying errors i see

that it tell me that the Favorites,Startup folder not delete cause it is a system folder

or some thing like that

and from one month i used the progran i dont see any "displaying errors"

and i used it to C:\

to the system

and see that

=================

i used CCleaner to Clean all this folder "System Volume Information"

and i never get any errors

i think that is a system folder but it when i delete file from the partion it copy itself to "System Volume Information" and take a big space in HD

and the folder contain a system files and CCleaner not delete it auto

what i mean that CCleaner not delete any folder or file important for the system

that is all what i think

thanks for all member

and for Andavari

sory for my bad english again :P :P

Thats just sloppy uninstallers. Download something like revo uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/

It will scan for left over folder/file traces after invoking the software own uninstaller.

You poem like flow of sentences makes it harder to read lol
