static ip address

Recommended Posts

I believe you have to request a static ip address and pay a premium for it when you sign up with an isp.

At least that was the case when I signed up with a new isp for broadband at my place of work last year, I opted for a dynamic ip address for the simple reason that a static one would have served us no purpose and was quite a bit more expensive.

Why do you want a static one anyway Vanguard382?

there is really no point for a static ip unless you want to make your computer a server

a static IP is an IP which will never change and therefore makes a great server because of DNS Resolution.

Dynamic IP means that the IP changes everytime you lose the connection with your host and reconnect. really nice way to get away from hackers :P
