Moderators DennisD Posted March 25, 2009 Moderators Share Posted March 25, 2009 My setting to do this for some unknown reason reverted back the other day, which brought it to my attention, so I thought I'd stick it here for those who may not know about it. When you open a folder with Windows Explorer, each and every time Windows by default searches for the location of Network Folders and Printers. If you don't need this, open any Windows Explorer window, go to Tools\Folder Options\View, and uncheck the first box, "Automatically search for Network Folders and Printers". Made a big difference for me, hope it does the same for you.

Tom419
Does this pertain to Vista? I can't seem to navigate to that setting. I am right clicking on the startup globe and selecting Explore, after that I'm lost Thanks
Moderators hazelnut Posted March 26, 2009 Moderators Share Posted March 26, 2009 Don't have Vista, but try opening 'my computer' then at the top click on tools, then folders options, and then the view tab. Then you should see the box to untick. Icedrake
Try this Tom: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Folder-Options That should have something to uncheck that is or at least is close to this: "Automatically search for Network Folders and Printers"
Moderators Andavari Posted March 27, 2009 Moderators Share Posted March 27, 2009 Wait... Should I uncheck this box if I do have a printer connected to my computer? I have a printer/scanner combo installed and unticking that box doesn't cause it any issues.

It can be accessed through Vistas "Organize" tab however. I don't think that network folders and printer option is there however Thank you
Moderators DennisD Posted March 27, 2009 Author Moderators Share Posted March 27, 2009 still not sure if this is an option with Vista It apparently isn't the same in Vista. Go to network and sharing center. you will find "printer share" there.....just uncheck it. I found this same suggestion on a lot of Vista sites, so a link doesn't really help, but it supposedly has the same effect as the XP tip. Either way, it can't do any harm to try it.
