EDIT: IE 8 is just a piece of crap, it messed up my whole system. Everything started to become a crawl. So uninstalled it, and now IE 7 works like a charm, no system slowdown by piece of **** IE 8, and everything is fine. :D

I stick with Firefox. Opera was excellent till the last build screwed me up for unknown reasons. I've had no problem with IE8 so far, just hate the fact it takes 30 minutes to install like it's a system or something. But it's not my browser of choice anyway.

Seems there can be a reason why this can happen (the slowdowns when you have a few tabs open) and a fix.

That gives a fix for a tab slowness problem; which I didn't have. My problem used to be that IE8 took way more than a minute to fully start up. When it did, everything ran OK. But IE8 also slowed my whole system down too.

This guy's issue is what I have:

On the three XP machines I installed to, one has a significant problem. I already rolled back to IE7 once yesterday, and I?m about to do it today. My problem seems different from what you describe: IE8 is extremely slow to launch. IE8 crashes when I try to close it without waiting for the complete launch.

No one seems to be getting my problem.

Looks like he does have the same exact problem as me:

The new IE slowed user logon an extra 20 seconds in addition to being slow to launch itself. I wonder what the deal is. I suppose I could reinstall IE8 RC1, but I won?t bother.

Same website. Comment #33, same person.

yeah i think IE is really not good for your computer, why dont you just try firefox,Safari or Chrome?

i think Chrome is the most beauty explorer, but it is not safe, it always shut down auto. so what a pity :(

Ok... To make this clear... I don't use IE. I was just updating to IE8 to keep my system updated, but then IE8 screwed everything up and I had to go back to IE7. I was wondering what the problem was with IE8 and if anyone had a fix for it. ;)

Another work-around for IE8 starting slow

Another work-around for IE8 starting slow (if you don't have immunization by any tool) is posted by MVP and ZDNET writer, Ed Bott:

Register the actxprxy.dll file in XP or Vista

See if that will help anyone because it help others.

Exactly the same in my situation!

I only wanted to keep my system up-to-date with any possible security related fixes IE8 may or does have however it really bogged down my WinXP SP3 system to the point where usability was diminished in particular and my decision for reverting back to IE7:

Programs not even related to IE were very slow to launch. Many of the programs I have installed took up to 3x longer for them to fully load which I just couldn't deal with on a daily basis.

Finally someone else who has the same exact problem as me, and gets what my problem is. I hope Micro$ft releases a patch or something to fix this.
