I've lost a lot of respect for Grisoft...

Ok, yeah - a payed upgrade without charge, to their internet security suite... sounds generous, but what pisses me off about this is that it seems they can't be bothered upgrade their anti-spyware prog based on good old Ewido,, and are now forcing their internet security suite onto their payed users. mad-2.gif I don't like AVG antivirus - too many false positives.. I'm happy using ESET NOD32 for my antivirus, thank you very much..

I payed a 2-3 year subscription for AVG antispyware... what a waste of my money.

I was also a very happy user (paid) of Ewido which then changed to avg antispyware.

My subscription ran out on the 12th of this month.

I did not renew.

I use and am happy with avira free, sandboxie, Online Armor firewall, and SAS on demand.

Shame this software is being allowed to just disappear really.

I feel sorry for those who had a lifetime subscription.

That's just one reason to rely upon freeware or open source software, that way if it disappears another free alternative can be used.

In the end it's evident that Grisoft should've just left Ewido alone to do their own business, and Grisoft should've developed their own antimalware/antispyware from scratch!

I was a long time user of AVG but when they released the bloated 8.0 and kept bugging me to upgrade last May I dumped it for avast! Home Free and I am still a happy user and enjoy their friendly helpful forum that is a refreshing change from the caustic AVG forum.

AVG AV 8.0 very annoying:

Agreed, it's a shame. RIP Ewido..

What are considered the best antispyware progs at this time? I'm currently using Spybot and a-squared free.

I really like Malwarebites MBAM and I have a paid subscription for $32.00CAD:

I tried a-squared ages ago but it had too many false positives and I do not use Spybot S&D anymore as it only found tracking cookies and its scan takes unbearably too log to run.

I do use Microsoft's Windows Defender manually updated daily because of its monitoring of the HOSTS file and other key operating system files but I wish that its update function would work more reliably.

I also like WinPatrol and I purchased its PLUS update for $29.95US:

I like the comfort of its mascot Scotty's woof alerting me when things are changed on my systems.

Unfortunately, being on the Internet today has become such a target for the criminal element for their own nefarious purposes.

It is all in the name of gathering the almighty $$$ as it is easy to steal as there is a very long time for them to be brought to justice or even to be caught. [/political rant]

Thanks, but I'm asking about the best antispyware, not antivirus.

SaiyaMel, I guess we should be talking about malware as that is the thing that is pervasive on the Internet right now and not quibble whether it is spyware or virus because both are prevalent now.
