Clear empty folders in start menu after chortcut cleanup.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

A suggestion for you. It would be nice to have an option to delete empty folders in the start menu along with the shortcuts if there are no others in the folder tree. When CCleaner removes the shortcuts it often leaves a lot of empty folders (sometimes nested) and it would be helpful if there were an option to remove these.

Hi Ryan, thats an interesting point. I didn't think for a minute I would find any empty folders in the start menu. I have a lot of folders in there, but I did actually find one empty one.

If a program has a decent uninstaller, it should remove it's start menu folders along with everything else, and to that end you can help prevent these from being left behind by using an install tracker such as the following:

ZSoft Uninstaller:?(Freeware)

Total Uninstall:?(Last freeware version) If you download, use the "download" link, and not the "home" link, which is the shareware version.

Or, you can use a different approach with a program that runs an applications own uninstaller first, and then scans for leftovers such as start menu folders, registry entries etc..

Revo Uninstaller:?(Freeware)

I'm sure your suggestion will be looked at Ryan. Thanks for posting.

Hi Ryan.

There are no empty folders in my StartUp menu. Any short-cuts that are in there are just an easy way to start programs when Windows starts up without going into the registry.

Thats because I'm using a superior OS. ;)
