Moderators Andavari Posted July 28, 2008 Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2008 Microsoft has a web-based ClearType Web Tuner, much the same as the installable ClearType Tuner Powertoy. It allows for fonts/text to look its best with LCD monitors. Requires using Internet Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleart...tuner/tune.aspx
Corona
Requires using IE. Is that for installing & tweaking, or do you have to use IE in order for it to work? (ie. no Opera or FF allowed)
Moderators Andavari Posted July 28, 2008 Author Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2008 It actually installs Microsoft ClearType Tuner if using IE on that page. Doesn't work at all in Opera nor Firefox.
Corona
So it's strictly only if you're going to use IE. It has no effect on FF or Opera.
Moderators DennisD Posted July 28, 2008 Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2008 So it's strictly only if you're going to use IE. It has no effect on FF or Opera. ClearType works with Opera and Firefox, but you can't use the online link to tune it, unless you use Internet Explorer. I think that's what your unhappy smiley means. Any tuning you do, will still be there when you reopen Opera or Firefox.
Corona
Oh! So you tweak it using IE, and afterwards the settings stay active in all 3 browsers. (It affects all browsers.)
YoKenny
ClearType Tuner PowerToy An alternative to our popular online ClearType Tuner, Windows XP PowerToy lets you activate and tune your ClearType settings via the Windows Control Panel. http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowertoy.mspx One of Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...ppowertoys.mspx "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." - Albert Einstein IE7Pro user
