Lowering Default Desktop Icon Starting Position

I would like to lower the starting position of my Desktop icons. To use a visual aid:

Before Lowering (dotted lines represent the screen)

|-----------------------------------------

|Icon

|

|

|

After Lowering (dotted lines represent the screen)

|-----------------------------------------

|NO ICONS ARE ABLE TO GO IN THIS HORIZONTAL SPACE

|Icon

|

|

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks,

Joe

Right-click the desktop

Point to Arrange Icons By and untick AutoArrange.

Now drag and drop the desktop icons to how you want them.

You can leave Align to Grid ticked as this will keep them in evenly spaced rows.

Thanks for the reply Humpty! What I want to be able to is keep Auto Arrange clicked, but have all of the icons start lower, almost as if there is reserved a reserved horizontal space.

Right Click Desktop -> Properties -> Appearance Tab -> Advanced Tab -> Item(Drop Down Box)-> Icon Spacing. This setting controls the spacing of the Desktop icons. There is a setting for horizontal or vertical spacing. This might work.

So close, yet so far away! Your idea almost worked!

Here's the original:

Instead of doing this:

----------------------------------------------

| NO ICON IS ABLE TO GO IN THIS HORIZONTAL SPACE

|Icon Icon

|

It did this:

----------------------------------------------

|

Thanks for the idea though!

It increased the spaces between your icons like it was supposed to but didn't help the top area. Hmm
