TeeJay3800
Every time I defragment the entire C drive using Defraggler, and then reanalyze the drive, there are always several (around 10-15) files that refuse to be defragmented. Most are under the WINNT folder, but some are just regular files like MP3's. Why is it that these files constanly remain fragmented, and how do I get them defragmented? Guest MrRon
Can you defrag the files one at a time? MrRon
TeeJay3800
Nope, even if I select a single file to defragment, and then reanalyze aferwards, the file remains fragmented. Its not just Defraggler that is not defragmenting these files, my other two defraggers aren't doing it either. Its just that Defraggler is the only utility I have that specifically lists which files are fragmented. TeeJay3800
Would rebooting in safe mode allow these files to be defragmented? Dell Latitude D600 Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
Moderators Andavari Posted October 3, 2007 Moderators Share Posted October 3, 2007 Would rebooting in safe mode allow these files to be defragmented? That's worth a try, however there are some files that just won't defrag. I'm personally dealing with one remaining fragment myself for the Office 2003 SP3 Patch, all 117 MB of it. CTskifreak
I have this file titled: hiberfil.sys that is at 2,095,268 kb that won't defragment. It's location is at C:\ --I believe it is a hidden file. I'll research what it is. AJ EDIT: Found info here I use stand-by, not hibernate, because of it being a desktop. Do you believe I could delete it?? Any help would be appreciated.
